Heard from some shrill journo on 2UE they had seen the CCTV and it was 'damning' and he should never play again.

Granted the journo was an AFL flog plant...but the NRL should be worried about passing judgement (like Lodge) then the CCTV coming out. They should just release the damn thing now, it will come to light at some time and make it all surface again.

It's very unusual for AOABH to result in gaol time. The way his offenses were reported I'd have thought it would be AOGBH or grievous wounding. The articles that I've just googled have said that he plead to AOABH so possibly initially charged with the higher offenses and plead to the lesser. Still, very surprised.

We all know why this happened though.

I think the NRL really needs to draw a line in the sand with any violent criminal offence.

They need to outright ban any player convicted for a violent offence in order to really push a cultural shift that this behaviour is not acceptable and would not be tolerated. Australia has a significant issue with violence, especially against women, and the only way to change this is by shifting the cultural acceptance of it. The NRL can get a lot of positive publicity by being the first major sport to take a strong stance on this issue.

As for the arguments of 'second chance' - There are a lot of workplaces where you will not be employed because of a conviction, and there is plenty of scope for the NRL to enforce similar. Australia needs to stop ignoring these crimes simply because a person is good at sport. Playing professional sport is a privilege.

On this we agree, I only watch this and The Fan these days. No mention of massage parlors, Hindy not winning a permiership or NRL in crisis on either.
