I think Marketo is a decent 'squad' player or depth player. Especially if he is on low money.

In saying that we already have so many that can play his position!! Unless they are going to use him as a bench utility.. Hooker, second row and even centres on the odd occasion.

In Reading all the comments I believe most agree he is a hard worker, a toiler but definitely not a top 17 player. For me he is a 'safe' player but doesn't necessarily add anything to the side.

Happy to have him in the top 25 but probably not top 17.

Well it looks like McGregor will still be coaching us next year, one can only assume by the resigning of Marketo.

Please when the last Dragons supporter leaves our club.
Please turn off the lights or should I say the life support as there is no brain activity noted.

Others have got resigned who might not offer much more than Jake does. Jake Marketo wouldn't be on top dollar and can play dummy half. Might be justifiable as a 'depth signing'.
Trouble is he's not being used as a "depth" he is normally in the 17 & he's an ordinary dummy half.

If we sign an 80minute hooker then Marketo on the bench makes slot of sense.
Nope. Havili is better as a hooker and has more impact as a running forward.

Marketo anywhere makes no sense. And would love to know where this 80 minute hooker comes from...

Havili is a better hooker, for sure, but that's like taking your pick of shit sandwiches. Neither is up to starting hooker.

Sign a decent starting hooker and have them play 80 mins, stick Marketo on the bench to cover for injuries with 3 other forwards.

Havili is a complete waste of space on the bench.

I don't see us signing an 80 min hooker. There aren't many to pick from to begin with, let alone this late in the piece.

So Havili is a waste of space on the bench, but your plan is to stick a nailed-on reserve grader who is a worse hooker and gives no impact as a forward on the bench purely in case of injury?

Logic is overrated...

Has it been confirmed by the club? or is it just tabloid rumour?
In any case, and whatever you or I or anyone else for that matter think of Marketo, he's just like any other footballer. If he gets picked (for whatever reason) he will play. He's trying to make a living, just like you and me.
He's just doing what he's employed to do and wether he has a new 1 year deal, good luck to him.

It's just obvious, if true, that we cannot attract any players that are considered "quality, until McGregor is removed.

Please don't shoot me, only the messenger. It's hard to understand why, but Jake Marketo has been re-signed for another year. He gives 100% effort, but we need more than that in the NRL team. He's a solid backup utility for depth over the season for injuries, suspensions & when rep players are unavailable.

This can not be a good sign McGregors favorite it mean mary going to be here as well. Hope I'm wrong

"the type of player you can build a club around"

Yes that is what we need a whole club full of fringe first graders.

I would prefer to see them promote the entire under 20s squad before we follow this policy

We have many promising players in the NYC squad

Dufty/Leilua/Host/Herbert/Garrick/Field/Payne/Robson

We should be accelerating their development and path to first grade

Leilua and Host should be picked in the NRL side every week

Disagree. Not a shot at Jake himself, but his re-signing is a real indication of where the club is at. He is a toiler who offers absolutely nothing in attack and slightly over nothing in defense. No other club would have him in their top squad, let alone in their starting 17. We have PLENTY of depth in the backrow that is far superior to him, and if he's being signed as a 9 then we are truly destined for the spoon next year. Fact is, he is being signed on the back of being a local boy and family friends with McGregor. That's it. His spot in the squad to go to any number of juniors with plenty more upside than him. Why has he been in the 17 all year over someone like Sele? We should be grabbing whoever in the Cutters or NYC squad isn't unsigned and holds their own, and we'd be better off.

The fact that we are signing blokes who offer nothing due to 'effort', 'heart' and 'won't let us down' is embarrassing. There's a million reserve grade players who won't let us down. Doesn't mean we should be signing them.

On top of that, this is the biggest indication that Mary will 100% be coaching us next year, because no other coach would bother with Marketo.

I'm sure Jake's a lovely bloke. He does try, but he wasn't meant to be a first grade footballer. He's done very well to play the games he is. But after 5 years of complete shit, I'm sick of being the f**king club that hands out contracts based on attitude and not ability. When are we going to go back to being the club who wins?

100% correct. Mary loves him no better than 90% Of the lower grade players we all ready have.

You aren't too quick on the uptake are you Benny.

Havili covers one position, realistically. Marketo covers several. The only thing he has going for him is his versatility. As a low wage earner there is room in a squad of 25 for one of these players. You need one in a squad to compensate for specialist players.

Our problem is we have a team full of them and it's going to take quite some time and recruitment to fix it, and hopefully a new coach. Marketo covers back row, hooker, centre and is a good defender.

But please, continue with your circle jerk blaming the selection of one player as to all the teams problems hey.
