Ok, so from what I gather, we release the injured Foran from his contract, sign the free agent - non - deadline claused Hayne to play the rest of the year, & then re-sign the recuperated Foran for next year on a "new" contract.

I lke it.

I know we're discussing dodgy sports journalism and poor communication from the NRL... but just because the 30June registration doesn't apply to players who are not NRL registered, why do we assume there are no rules at all to the post-30 June registration of such players?

It would make sense if there was a phrase (or interpretation) that this can only occur "at the NRL's discretion" - it is their competitoon after all, and surely the submission of a mere contract for Hayne for six rounds can't force the NRL to accept and register it - even if we shed Foran's 2016 contract and have cap space.

And why do we think any other club would be allowed to, just because we are told we can't? Sloppy quotes from Greenberg - and an opportunity to force his agenda for us in the media - but surely thoughts of Hayne joining for the remaining rounds are pure fantasy?

Why would these thoughts be pure fantasy?
If as reported he has been in talks with Eels officials for the last 2-3 weeks he is obviously considering a return to NRL and to us. If as announced he is no longer getting on the plane to Rio as a competitor he would be able (if both parties are willing) to agree to terms for the remainder of 2016. All that would remain is for the NRL to agree to his contract (valuation and our capability under the cap) and there should be nothing to stop it from happening.

Matty Johns show tonight has "Lara Pitt one on one with Todd Greenberg".

Mind out the gutter idiots. It's about Hayne.

The NRL can't blackmail us, but they can say that as a dual international (he's played rugby for Fiji), an Australian and nsw level rep player, and the best player in the game when he left, with inflation and salary cap increases, they believe his value is $1.5m under the cap, of which we couldn't afford this season

Kent reckons the NRL should stipulate that Hayne comes clean on any cap issues he was involved in (given his name was on the 'list' of dodgy payments) before he is allowed back into the game

So they can ban him?

Just like Cameron Smith and all those other Storm and Dogs players had to do? Seems fair.

I think you answered your own question there, in bold.
