If a premiership is important to him then realistically there will be a premiership window for him in the next 2 years with the Eels. By then he will be 31 and still young enough to play Union in France. Eating Sushi he can do when he is 40. Ask Craig Wing.

I thought he was now ineligible to play for the Wallabies so how would ARU be salivating ?

I'm guessing that right there meant he knew he was sitting on the sidelines and had to make an exit quick.
I'm starting to believe the rumour this whole Fiji thing is just a gap filler to get back into the NRL. He'll certainly be back to full fitness come pre season.

That has been my opinion which when I posted was labelled a fairytale... we'll see I guess.

I read it as tongue-in-cheek, as well, and as Avy said, France and Japan are still viable options for old men.

Not that I'm saying I get the feeling he is coming back, just that the quotes in the article above shouldn't be taken with any actual seriousness.

This article highlights just how stupid "journalism" in Australia has become.

Not to nitpick, but it has two glaring errors in it.

Firstly, Wallabies HQ wouldn't be "salivating" over Hayne. He isn't eligible to play for the Wallabies anymore. Playing for Fiji sorted that one out.

And secondly, and this one might be picky, but he didn't train with Parra, he trained with Wenty. Unless he had a stop over in Darwin on his way to Fiji..

I know I'm being picky about it, but news should be at least factual, it's not too much to ask. Journalists used to pride themselves on having the correct information in their articles, and it's sad to me that it isn't the case anymore.

But it does sound like Hayne's heading to France or Japan next though, going by that.

I'm not overly upset about it either to be honest, I'd love to see him back, but I've made my peace with him being gone, so I won't be phased if we never see him in the blue & gold again.

To be honest, Avenger, I don't think it is.

I really don't know if French / Japan Union is an option for him.

He is always talking about challenges and achieving goals and money isn't his motivating factor.

Is French / japan Union really a challenge for him? Japan sounds like park footy while French Union is all about the cash.

As avenger said he could play in those comps during his 30's.

What other challenges are there for him? A premiership ? Another origin series win? Proving he still has it in league ?

I reckon it is, he may be spreading his wings globally but he will always be a league boy. And the ultimate for any league player is a premiership. I reckon it would kill him if the eels got one in the next few years without him involved.

It seems to me that exploring the world and expanding his brand is his focus. I mean look what he did in just one season of NFL, heck even just saying he was going to try. Sponsors started coming out of his ringhole.

Either that or he wants to play sport in every continent. Don't know how he'll get to Africa.

I think he will do a SBW. I reckon he'll be back by end of Olympics, but only until end of next season

Sounds like he is just stirring the pot to get a reaction.

I think he has a decent idea what his next move will be but he isn't in any rush to tell anyone.

So, in other words no.

Actually it's 1 in 2. He lied about liking sushi.

EDIT

Actually very confident now.

“I’ve always said that, if I’m in a position to come back, then Parramatta would be my first choice,’’ Hayne said. “But we’ll have to see what happens.

“Right now, my only concern is the next few weeks here in Fiji.”

"I would have loved to have played both. I would love to have played three sports or four sports. I would love to play league, union, sevens, NFL - I would have loved to play all four but you just can't do it."

Hard to know what is happening with Hayne, one minute we read he wants to come back to Parra, the next he's off to union in Japan or France. I don't know that any of us will have a clear idea until he announces his future plans himself.

The recent rush of articles with Hayne quotes is a classic tactic by Hayne (or his management) of keeping his "brand" prominent in the media around Origin time.... Heaven forbid the centrepiece of the code might outweigh media coverage of the individual - even when Hayne's been away from league for two years.

Some of the quotes reveal possible reasons behind his decision to leave NFL - the Fiji Airways ambassador deal was probably the first piece of the puzzle, before Hayne pulled the surprise move of trying to make the Fiji Olympic 7s side at the last minute. Hayne's NFL income last year was primarily based on share of jersey merchandising, and his manager is smart enough to know that money wasn't going to flow in during the second year - so paid airline spokesperson role it is (with a vague attempt at trying another code, to try and enahnce Hayne's relevance).

Quite a few quotes also from Hayne lowering expectations that he'll make the final Fiji 7s squad.... Interesting turnabout (once the airline deal was announced) - quite likely he's been told he won't make the cut, and he/his manager is actively massaging the media so that the punters don't consider Hayne's choice to leave NFL a massive failure (as well as trying to cover the underlying commercialism that actually drives Hayne's career choices).

And still no quotes indicating that he is even thinking of coming back to rugby league - quite the opposite by my reading. Still reckon the two years out, no longer sevens/league fit, has been ex-Leagie is heading to Euro or Japanese rugby for his next (sporting) paycheck ;-).
