The Preliminary semi finals were played at Leichhardt Oval today.

The major semi between Wenty and Souths Juniors commenced at 12.30. Jacob Byrne, Brad Capovilla and Justin Doyle were all missing from the Wenty line up, but they had the luxury of calling up Willie Mclean and Nathan Jordan, who had played one and none JB games respectively.

Gwynne scored for Wenty after 2 minutes following an incisive run from Parke. After a Wenty penalty goal the game became a stalemate for about 15 minutes. Souths then appeared to get on top with tries to Higgins, Trindall and Rooke. Wenty cut the margin to 14-10 when Gwynne scored his second try 4 minutes before half time, however, they gifted Souths 6 points by losing possession from the kick off. Souths led 20-10 at the break.

Scott Ella scored 4 tries in the first 25 minutes of the second period, taking his season tally to an amazing 38 tries. Two resulted from passes from Siose Muliumu, another was on the end of a great Jordan cut out pass and the other was a 70 metre run after Souths dropped the ball.

Cush scored for Souths to close the margin to 28-24 but Adam Capovilla wrapped up the game by carrying 3 defenders over the line - Final Score Wenty 32-24.

The Elimination semi followed at 2.30 and the Bulls quickly established their superiority with 2 tries to Salem and one ach to Branighan and Rakabu saw a 20-0 lead after 20 minutes. The Cougars managed to hold out in the second quarter to trail 20-2 at the break.

The Cougars scored in the first set after resumption but the Bulls never took their opponents to get within range. Tries to Mostyn, Naiqama, Corrie and Salem all followed 60 metre breaks. The final score was 44-20.

The Bulls would be concerned that Rakabu was sent off following an all in brawl 10 minutes from the end.

The second round of semis will be held at St Marys next week. The Entrance play Wenty in the major semi and Souths play the Bulls in the minor semi

There was a decent turnout throughout the day with an approx. 250 present for the Cougars v Bulls game and 400 present for the Wenty v Souths Juniors game.
The referees decision to send off Rakabu was quite a joke, as the Cougars winger firstly king hit 'string bean' and he simply retaliated.
Im sure coach ghosn though wouldnt be impressed, and will face a stressful week. What dissapointed me was various Bulls admin. encouraged the fighting. Not the most professional of things to do!
Next weekends matches look set to be beauties and its extremely hard to pick the outcome of each.
Would anyone be able to confirm if these games are to be played on sunday and where will the Jim Beam Cup Final be played?

Mono, I understand the Preliminary final will be at Aussie Stadium as the 3rd game for one of the NRL preliminary finals.

what then would happen to clark?
as it appears he brang a lot of kiwis over with him from nz and they have been amonst the best of the wolves this year!
although i dont doubt your prediction as Barnes certainly has the experience and respect to do so!
Here's another prediction for you:
Guildford to leave the comp.
At the moment it looks as if we wont be fielding a side in the Jim Beam Cup next year. A meeting is still to be held regarding this but with the application deadline approaching fast it looks as if the Owls will end their long standing association with the NSWRL.
Contributing factors are the new points system and the impending tax.

i've also heard mounties have re-entered the JBC picture and are looking into entering a side in the 2004 JBC.
alongside mounties are the likes of Cabramatta, Camden, Asquith, Collegians, St George.

According to the NSWRL website, the second series of semi finals at St Marys has been switched from Sunday to Saturday. The same report appeared to count everyone in the crowd 6 times.
