very, very sad news....

was an absolutely brilliant servant for NZ Rugby.

He played 21 Tests for the All Blacks and captained them on 2 tours before retiring at 27 because of concussions.

his biggest impact to NZ Rugby was after he retired...

He saved NZ RU in 1995 when Kerry Packer tried to sign all the players in a Super League type raid...

and then in the aftermath of losing the co-hosting rights for the 2003 RWC... Hobbs picked up the pieces of a shattered NZRFU and ended winning the bid to host the 2011 RWC on our own.

RIP Jock...

RIP to a great man.

So glad that he got so see all his hard work come to fruition with the RWC win last year, and that his health held out enough for him to be there in person at the time as I know he was already pretty sick.
