Registration is more than just the weight tax. There is administrative costs for the issuing of number plates. It would be ridiculous to make them pay registration without having to display plates for identification purposes. CTP definitely because more often than not they cause their own injuries. It would be great for revenue raising too because the vast majority completely ignore road rules.

It’s easy to be tolerant of cyclists when they move faster than the cars.

Where cyclists are merkins in NY is on footpaths and shared paths.

The single bike riders who cause traffic congestion by forcing the left lane of vehicles to merge to the right lane to overtake, only to then pass all the left lane at the next set of lights by undertaking the vehicles whilst riding down the gutter.
And the process starts again with the green light.

That fker isn't keeping a meter gap as he rides down the gutter, causes traffic issues, and should be shot into the sun.

There’s no ctp claim that can be made if a bicycle hits someone and they would already have other options for compensation if required.

Actually that's road tax, and it'd be about $1.- 1.50.

Anyways, they could simply replace rego with a licence to wear lycra in public. Would be fairly easy to police and administer,

So rego plates are free issue? Rego costs in no way factor in the costs of rego plates? I'm saying registration should be implemented for identification purposes in the event of accidents. They would contribute nothing in terms of road wear.

As soon as they are registered they would need to pay ctp insurance as well.

Could put plates on bikes without any kind of payment simply for identification though, is that what you mean?

If it is cheap enough then yeah. Still reckon CTP or personal insurance is required though.

    Why?

I have no issue plating bikes but if you’re going to make bikes pay ctp then why not all road users?

If they own vehicles they would, but I was talking about pedestrians and cyclists using roads. Some motorised old people movers don’t require rego as well.

    Can’t think of others atm.
