Looks like Kev will be replacing Vuna's current role as backup winger.

Hope he can go as well as Vuna has for us.

hope you didn't spurt in your undies a little watching that, roopy. :) lol

it is good to see, though. it's always nice to think that we're on the lookout for any potential late bloomers and whatnot lurking around in Newcastle right under our noses. i'd like to order a Mark T with a bigger engine, thanks.

the knights could also do with the positive PR from another local boy or 2 making good at NRL level. then bring Snowy back, privatise the club and we might be heading in a direction that everyone can stomach.

Wooden played one game for the Centurions last year, as did Matt Cooper - both stars of the 2006 Flegg side under Rip Taylor - in fact Cooper played for Australia schoolboys alongside Mullo, Uate, Paterson etc.
Both Wooden and Cooper went on to play for Newcastle and NSW Country last year.
I've always liked Wooden as a player, but he got a shot in the reserves years ago and he isn't big enough to make the grade i don't think, while Coops is big and strong enough for any grade, but he has been very injury prone over the years.
Neither of them are even close to Simon Williams.

I noticed on the news that De Gois was training doing drills with Chris Adams as the back up hooker.
He didn't play many games last year due to injury, but I think he went well enough in the games he did play to show he has the defence and the motor to make the grade. He just needs to work on not being a ball hog - which is probably a habit he got into through being the best player in the sides he has played in for the last 3 or 4 years.
With Ndaira gone, he is probably our only other specialist hooker, if you don't count Marlborough who may or may not get a run for the centurions.

Wooden was impressing a few people in 2007 playing for our first PL side under Trent Robinson.

He had his jaw broken with a late high shot in a trial at cessnock against the Sharks that year.

When he came back there was a lot of fear in his game.

It has taken a few yers for his confidence to bet back to where it needs to be.

I dont know if he has what it takes to make grade. As a specialist fullback, size has never been an issue. He was 93kg in 2007 and was 95 before preseason at testing this year with skin folds of 88 (about 10% BF), the kid is big and ripped, always has been.

The thing that always struck me with Wooden was has well he did in wet weather on slippery grounds.
He has a running style with short strides and he seems to be able to change direction without losing balance or slipping. I saw him score several double and triple try hauls in the juniors, and it always seemed to be on wet days.

Report on Channel 9 tonight suggesting both Kurt Gidley and Issac De Gois to re-sign with the club.

Happy days if that is true!

Yeah I thought De Gois might have been heading back to one of the Sydney clubs...but great news if true.
