Newcastle Knights Vs St George Illawarra Dragons
31st August 2003

Parkis Message
Heres a message for all you people that doubted us. For all you imbecilic morons that said that without Joey, we couldn’t win another game all year. That the knights, without Johns, were going to struggle to beat Souths. 42-8. That’s Thirty four mother f**king points that we beat the dragons by, lead by our new future superstar in Kurt Gidley, and you cant take that away. You thought we would lie down and take it didn’t you? You thought that just like all those other times when we showed no heart and no courage that this year wasn’t going to be any different.Well Guess what. Your Wrong.

The boys have found the pride power and passion that makes our team, our jersey so outstanding. Our Team will no longer roll over and die and be the one man team that you love pointing out to us. Because we are the knights. We are Newcastle. We are proud and passionate and will fight with every single thing that we have, in order to make our team a success. And you’d better believe it.

Our team has been backed by a blue and red tidal wave that is driving them forward, inspiring them to greater heights. They heard it at Oki on Sunday when the power of the blue and red army drowned out the pathetic 8,000 dragons fans leaving the ground who couldn’t be bothered watching their team lose their grip on the finals. They heard it two weeks ago when we weren’t supposed to win a game, yet we beat the warriors who only yesterday beat the Sydney Roosters, the defending Premiers of the competition. And they heard it last Sunday in the freezing conditions at Canberra Stadium where our boys toiled hard but just couldn’t come up with the points. Its this decisive factor, coupled with a new found self belief that is making our boys fight for every tackle and chase every kick. Heres an Example.

Take young Kurt Gidley. With the weight of the hunter of his shoulders, he could easily be forgiven for giving up. But no. He goes out and gets 2 man of the match performances in a display much beyond his 21 years. He chases every kick that he puts up and is the first one to smash the opposition fullback into submission, every time. Its not rocket science, but what it is is having a go and putting your body and heart and soul into a team that means something to you, not sitting back and waiting. Like I said a few weeks back, Joe isn’t coming back, but at the moment we are fighting. Fighting like true champions, and that’s what the red and blue spirit is all about. Kurt Typifies this spirit and tenacity, and like Danny Buderus said in yesterdays paper , “The kids going to be a potential superstar.” A potential superstar with bad hair yes, but a superstar all the same.

Yesterdays performance made me proud to be a knights fan. We fought hard, and in the end the dragons folded. They folded to the might and strength that is Newcastle, with our without Johns.
They folded to us, to our pride, our power and our passion. And that’s what makes us Great. We may not go all the way this year, but you can be sure of one thing. We will fight. Our boys will do their damnedest to show the world that they aren’t a one man team. They did it yesterday. They’ll do it again. Look out Finals, I say, ARE YOU READY FOR THE BLUE AND RED ASSAULT? YOU THOUGHT WE WERE DEAD, BUT WE ARE NOT. WE ARE ALIVE AND WERE COMING FOR OUR TROPHY. AND YOUD BETTER BELIEVE IT.
