From your taxes. Just yours, specifically. A 100% tax rate, mandated just for you, with compulsory community service hours rolled in with it to clean the toilets there in the humanities faculty.

Specifically the ones used by the GLBTIQ people.

It's the great leap forward that we need.

It's the recession you had to have.

You do get to pick your brand of toilet cleaner though.

What if we shoehorn a deal for Gina Rhinehart to get a tax dodge into the legislation to grease the wheels?

What if you explain why you think I should pay for your tertiary education as well as my own?

Because I can't afford it after I spent all my inheritance on boxes of little red books.

Doing a deal with Howard on the GST is what killed the Democrats.

The deal you speak of was done in 1999, however their vote in 2001 was still relatively strong. It didn't really collapse until 2004

Whilst that is true, the deal lead to the split which lead to the spill which saw Lees dumped, they self destructed over the next few years.

As a party that deal split them, and that is what caused their downfall.

That's also when, from memory, a majority of the democrats senators completed their 6 year terms. So the full effect of the gst deal really only hit home in 2004 since in 2001 most of the democrats senators were only halfway through their terms

True, that was probably the beginning of the end. But subsequently embracing leftist causes certainly didn't help

Remember when one of their MPs joined 4C to preach to us about David Hicks?

Really? Wow, that's nuts. (I imagine they were a senator, don't think the Dems had any MPs)

It was much of a muchness. they were 5 and 4 going into 2001 and lost 1 to give them 8, then lost the 4 in 2004

No I wasn't here then, but those kind of causes were always part of their policy platform. Anyways, the inner city liberals ( their base ) abandoned them and flocked to the Greens in 2004, the numbers are there on record.

If it was a lurch to the left, they would not have bled all those votes to a party further to left no?
