WOMEN BREATHE NEW LIFE

APOLOGIES for continuing to rave about the all-female League Life show on Fox Sports but it is doing great things for rugby league.

Yvonne Sampson, Lara Pitt, Hannah Hollis and Jess Yates are getting strong numbers every week.

Although overall TV match-day ratings are down, the NRL is attracting more female viewers this year with an average audience of 82,000 women for live coverage.

That’s up almost 5 per cent on last year. In total, women make up 35 per cent of the league audience on Fox Sports and it’s growing all the time.

Ratings are only down relative to last year, the first year of simulcasting. They are still way up on 2015, and that's without Monday night football.

Viewers are down this year for Sydney FTA + STV , probably something like 10% on overnight figures. Not sure why?

The Qld number seem as good or better. Maybe with the Broncos being showed on FTA most weeks there is not only less need for Fox but also streaming devices.

I'm very surprised the Friday early game rates higher in perth than the later game given its a 4pm KO here! Something fishy about that.

So it looks like if this bill passes, consolidation of regional and city networks will happen. So this opens up for a change of ratings computation. I suggest that the new ratings methodology should be 5 States and Capital. This would be a fairer representation of the NEW market. In detail just use the House of Reps as your guide/rating estimate ie 47 seats NSW and QLD 30 and so on. (150 seats total) No Tas/NT. So fifty people per electorate can be surveyed. 150 times 50 = 7500 surveyed.
This will be good for NRL nine and i think Ten also. Correct me if i'm wrong the three commercial broadcasters own OZTam and the regional TV own Regional Tam, which would have to be combined anyway when the new laws come into be. Lets be first suggest the model (which favors NRL) as soon after passage of laws, suggesting a change in ratings.
In our helpful letter we suggest to contact 10 Ten network and work with them. What have Ten to loose? They are the lowest rating anyway and a change would benift them in my opinion.
So IF the laws pass lets put a sneaky letter together addressed to Nine board.
