Apologies if something like this has been discussed before but was keep to get thoughts on what was possible from a NSW Competition point of view.
1. Funding
Do you think there will ever be a time when NRL clubs can stand on their own two feet and do not need the help of leagues clubs for funding?
It would be fantastic if the leagues club could divert all their funding to grass roots football from U6's all the way through to NSW Cup.
2. Expanded NSW Cup
if 1. did eventuate and leagues clubs could direct all their funding to junior areas, do you think we could have an expanded NSW Cup that looks a lot more like the old NSWRL?
it would run separately to the NRL and could have its own TV rights etc and salary cap if you wanted and could be a true competition that could of course feed into the NRL where needed.
But we could have more teams playing than currently play and it could be opened up to any team throughout NSW to play. Plus places like Fiji and New Zealand.
The most important thing is that we could use the leagues club funding to help the grass roots areas that always struggle. And I do think that this would be a huge benefit to all junior development.
