"PETER Sterling’s first job as NSW State of Origin adviser will be to help canvas the next generation of Blues talents for the annual emerging camp in late January.
The upcoming one-day induction will take greater significance in the new year after seven of the eight Blues debutants last series came through the pathway.
Matt Moylan, Josh Mansour, Wade Graham, Dylan Walker, Adam Reynolds, Tyson Frizell, and Josh Mansour were all a part of the camp in either 2014 or 15.
Jack Bird was the only rookie not to experience an emerging camp.
It will be the first time Daley will meet with players after he was forced to abandon his traditional end-of-season catch-up due to the Four Nations tour.
“They come back and they’re into the (Auckland) Nines. It was too difficult because the majority are over on that Four Nations tour,” Daley said.
Sterling’s first order since his appointment last month will be to produce a list of names likely to include boom teenagers Nathan Cleary and Latrell Mitchell.
Kangaroos Shannon Boyd and Jake Trbojevic, Jake’s brother Tom, Bryce Cartwright, Ryan James and Joseph Leilua are all expected to take part.
Daley admitted he almost didn’t make the phone call to invite Sterling on board.
“As soon as I thought of him, I thought, ‘No, he wouldn’t do it. Twenty-four hours later I thought I should ask just in case,” Daley said.
“I admired him as a player but I really think he’s a great analyst and judge. He’ll have a lot of influence on where we go and what we do.”
Queensland host game one of the 2017 series on May 31 at Suncorp Stadium. Game two will be held at ANZ Stadium on June 21 before heading back to Brisbane for game three on July 12."
