Mounties RLFC 2014 Season
Mounties kicked off their 2014 season campaign with pre season commencing on the 19th November.
Head coach Steve Antonelli has set goals to build on the success of last season and has spoken to the players at length about the clubs expectations at an orientation session on the opening night.
Having retained the bulk of the team that contested the Ron Massey Cup grand final and with the addition of some new recruits the clubs number one goal this season is the make the semi finals in the VB NSW Cup competition followed by finals appearances in Ron Massey Cup and Sydney Shield.
Pre season will be a mixture of endurance, strength and game simulation with the club taking the added step next season of employing a dedicated sprint coach as well as bringing in a wrestling coach to assist the players in overcoming their opposition.
Mounties is also bringing back some of the Saturday sessions that helped them in the 2011 season when the squad where regulars at the Wanda sand hills, Coogee steps and other famous Sydney fitness courses.
The squad is shaping well with a bulk of the premiership winning C Grade team being retained or moving up into the Sydney Shield / Ron Massey Cup squads, the retention of the nucleus of the Ron Massey Cup team and the addition of some top class NSW Cup players from NSW and Queensland.
Also due to return after the new year are Reece Goldsmith and Clay Priest who are currently undertaking preseason training with the Canberra Raiders.
Mounties will act as the feeder club for the Raiders again this season with a host of NRL players wearing the black and gold as well as Mounties players doing their best to impress Ricky Stuart and his team for selection in the top grade.
Mounties season will kick off with the traditional International 9s tournament followed by an inter club trial against the Raiders, the Ron Massey Cup pre season competition and some additional NSW Cup trials before the season proper gets underway in March and the NSW Cup team will wear a variety of jerseys during the year to celebrate and promote the Men of League foundation, Women in League round, Heritage round, Rivalry round and Close the Gap round.
