Orford's Apprentice

As the June 30 deadline approaches and Matty still hasn't signed - I am pessemistic about our chances in retaining the guy. And if he leaves (which I hope he doesn't) I can understand that he needs to chase the bucks and wish him well as he has been totally upfront about it.

If he does leave, who could fill those shoes (either internally or externally)?. Is Cooper Cronk, Nathan Friend, Andrew McFadden :?: or Steven Turner a player who could fill turn those shoes?.

My current bet is that Cooper Cronk is being blooded into first grade by Bellamy because he sees potential.

Any opinions Or external alternatives that the storm should be looking at?

If we get some strong opinions we could put it to a Poll - If anyone watches the Devils play can they give us a state of Junior alternatives?

I think mcFadden was going to be Bellamy's "in case Hill or Orford get injured" card but Cappy (the world's most expensive player considering the amount of time he spent on the field) has not been able to put it together.

Brian Smith put it quite well the other night, that player requirements in size and weight have moved dramatically in the past 4 years (remember when Howe was considered a big forward).

I think coaches are looking for more sizable blokes who can take the punishment - to me a half back really is an attitutude and a mouth who can get things organised quickly - regardless of size. Therefore I would not write off an outside back moving to a half position so Cronk would fall into my contentions - I just don't know if he has the attitude.

Hmm, well as Matty Geyer has started in every back position except half back then let's give him a run and see how he goes. ;-)

Only joking, do everything possible to keep Ox.

Steve Turner is a specialist Fullback, be very surpised to see him play half.

interesting to See Luke Dyer has left you guys to return to Penrith. He wasn't happy cause u guys f**ked him around promising him a first grade spot and then didn't deliver so he came back to us.

Rumour is Steve Turner may be on his way back as well.

i reckon move cam smith to Half, Geyer to 5/8 and Hill to lock, and put Danny Williams or an upandcoming hooker in. Then you'll be set if Orford.

Marty Turner is slaying it in the Qld Cup and was being groomed for a halves spot before his car accident. He has better form than some of those mentioned.
