Probably showing my age but to me, the best bands evolved in the 60's could really hold a note and or play an instrument ............... Beach Boys, Beatles, Stones, Kinks, Badfinger, Doors to name a few and the 70's .......Eagles, Dire Straits, Fleetwood Mac, Liver River Band to name a few.

To me, the most overrated performer would have to be Boy George.
Can't sing for sh!t.
Can't play ans instrument.
Head like a smacked arssehole and so called music to match.
Agree with your bands OKB.
We’re probably of the same vintage, a few more I’d like to add Zeppelin, Bad company, Kiss, Cheap Trick,The Doobies.

I always switch stations when U2 come on:weary:

U2 just came on the radio. I cringed and changed the station before I realised what I was doing.

Bono was interviewed talking about what a great guitarist The Edge is, and how he revolutionised guitar.

What a load of bollocks. As far as I'm concerned U2 is just another overhyped pop band. But for some reason people fawn over them. I just don't get it, and I don't imagine I ever will.

Any other suggestions for overrated bands?

Great story about Bono demonstrating his out of control ego .At a concert he attempts to make a statement so everything is quiet and he goes up to the mike and claps his hands very very slowly and then says "every time i clap my hands another African dies of starvation " Silence for a split second and someone shouts out from the audience "Well stop f**ken clapping then ! " The crowed erupts with laughter and Bono goes back to the show.

GOLD Jerry GOLD.!

There are two versions of the Peppers. With John Frusciante is good. Without Frusciante is very mediocre.
One hot minute had a couple of awesome tracks (I don't mind Jane's addiction and I thought Navarro brought something interesting to it) but yeah, overall not a great album.

Worth a relisten of the track Tearjerker once you know it was written about Cobain's death. Puts a whole new power into the song.

Agreed, add to that the brilliance of Eric Clapton - Cream, Derek and the Dominos, etc.

Dude, I nearly responded to your post that Foo Fighters don't put on a good live show but let it go but now Metallica are overrated!
This is outrageous!
I demand you rethink your position here!

Never said they don't put on a good live show, they give it their all but it's still overly rehearsed and it gets boring

I agree with you that U2 are over rated. I have been saying it for a very long time too. A few of my mates were big U2 fans in the 80's and 90's. I even tried to get into them, but never did.

Personally the best rock music came out between 65 to the early 80's at the latest. It peaked between 67 to 71. Other over rated bands would be

Guns and Roses
Nirvana
Red Hot Chilli Peppers
Doors/Jim Morrison
Wham
Culture Club
Metallica
Oasis

My top rated bands would be

Led Zeppelin
AC/DC with Bon Scott
Beatles
Jimi Hendrix Experience/Band Of Gypsies
Moody Blues
Crosby Stills Nash and Young
Pink Floyd
Rolling Stones
Fleetwood Mac
Eagles
Police
Dire Straits

I included Culture Club in my list of over rated bands too. I then read you comment and had a good laugh. I only included Culture Club and Wham out of jest. For all those who don't know, Boy George's band in the 80's was called Culture Club. They were pretty big at one stage too. lol I didn't get it then and I don't still don't get it, that could be a good thing. lol

I forgot the Kinks and the Beach Boys. I rate them too. The Beach Boys were one of my first favourite bands. Do you know the Beach Boys couldn't surf?

Tough one..

Nirvana were critical at bringing the grunge sound to the mainstream, which in turn helped drive the success of countless other bands..

That being said, had Kurt not killed himself I think they wouldn’t be as popular as they are now.. It’s amazing how an early death creates a legacy..

And amazing how many grunge singers we’ve lost already, even though it’s only been 25 years since it went huge..

Kurt Cobain, Chris Cornell, Scott Weiland, Layne Staley..
Kurt may not have actually killed himself. I watched an interesting documentary once. This guy was looking into it. He interviewed a guy who went by the name of El Duce who said that Courtney Love had offered him a substantial amount to kill Kobain. Shortly after the interview El Duce apparently committed suicide by laying on railway tracks. I am probably only just scratching the surface.

All you Aussies are probably going to hate me buuuuuut AC/DC. Jesus christ I don't know how the duped the world into thinking they're good
Go and get the Bon Scott albums. AC/DC with Bon Scott are one of the greatest bands of all time. AC/DC really died when Bon Scott died.

Check out Bon Scott videos on Youtube. I saw them live with Brian Johnson in 88 and 94 (around 94). In 88 it was a mad concert.
