Panthers sack Griffin 4 weeks from finals

He did lie. That's a fact.

He might have been honest/put his spin on the truth about some things. Or maybe even most things. But the shit about our juniors was a blatant lie as was his comment about Gus having done nothing prior to him arriving. Yet everyone just accepted those lies because people love to hate Gus.

There's a lot of stuff that has been said where we may never know the full truth. But those claims are not among them.

At the end of the day the club did nothing wrong by sacking an employee that refused to listen to his boss, work with his colleagues and pushed countless staff and players to leave the club. They could have handled it better. Actually Im not sure they could have handled it worse if they tried to be honest.

Funnily enough Gus is the villain here and yet I honestly believe he did everything he could to make the situation work and that this was the last outcome he wanted. Not because he's a nice guy. But because he didnt want to admit employing and extending Hook was a f**k up. Nothing he did in regards to Hook deserves this shit.

The Ivan Cleary situation is not so clear though. Its unbelievable that the club would think they could sign him for 2019 and that if they did it would be anything other than a huge mess. I would like to think they only ever asked him about 2021. But I honestly have no idea.

Their motives are pretty obvious. Which is why I don't see why they care about the when so much as the if he would return. But where there's smoke there's usually fire. So many better ways to handle the situation. They should have just approached Nathan about floating thre idea for 2021 by his dad. Tell him the job is his if he wants it. Put in a clause that Nathan can leave if we don't honor that offer. Everyone's happy. No media circus.

Well said.

Yes and the info we got was that Panthers wanted 2021 and Ivan wanted sooner. I don't blame him if he's seriously that close to Nathan. Must be a hell of a bond.
Ivan is as much to blame, but they are involved in trying to get him to break his contract. You can fancy it up all you want, but the Panthers were trying to get him to break his contract and that is scummy.

There's zero evidence that this is true.
Except Gus immediately after the sacking saying he had a replacement in mind, only to backtrack the following day.

Happens in business every day. The laws covering sporting officials are the same as those covering business in general. What makes it scummy is the emotional attachment of players, who have been brought in under certain expectations, and fans. In business, all they care about is money, which can easily change hands to the satisfaction of all concerned. For this reason the NRL should consider introducing rules covering the poaching of coaches under contract, like they have for players.

A replacement in mind is proof of nothing. Least of all that his replacement is also why Hook was sacked. You sack someone and you start thinking about his replacement. Whether you have one lined up or not.

There's alot more evidence thay he was sacked for many other reasons. Gus also claimed he wanted Hook to finish the season.

Gus lost all credibility when he said that 12 people (including current first grade coaches) had applied for the job overnight.

As if 12 blokes had their cv's all typed up and ready to go.

He changed his tune overnight. Which means he was lying either in the beginning or afterwards. A barrister would rip him to shreds, which is why he backed away.

It could also suggest him and the board don't see eye to eye on the issue.

I know people who do. In the NRL there are 12 jobs so it'd make sense to get in quick.

That proves he was talking about Cleary how?

Could have been Trent Barrett. Or Wayne Bennett. Or Fittler or literally anyone. Or even no one at all and he just wanted to minimise the damage caused by sacking a coach without a backup plan.

He might have been lying. Or maybe he had not made his mind up yet. Or maybe he had and the board weren't happy with his plan and so that was takrn off the table.

We don't know. One throwaway line can fit a million scenarios. People can easily twist it to fit their version of events.

Hell he could have been f**king with the medis knowing it would fuel the speculation. He knows what they were fishing for.

How long do you think a job resume takes? Most people have one that would simply need a bit of updating and could be banged out quiet quickly.

He said 2x current first grade coaches. Not unreasonable to think that 2 of the 15 other coaches applied for it.

That leaves another 10 who could be assistants or former coaches sho no doubt hsve spplied for jobs at the likes of Bulldogs, Titans, Souths etc. Recently.

There are only 16 head coaching jobs in the NRL. You think its unbelievable 12 people would try to get in quickly?

Huh how often do change yours, mine is always ready. Who the f**k types it? I am sure 12 blokes could easily have them ready and hit send on a Computer, tablet or phone. What are you suck in the 1950's?

Did it happen, not sure, completely plausible, hell yes.

Griffen has said Gould told him he was sacked to allow the Panthers to sign Cleary. Stop twisitng yourself in knots to avoid the truth.

YES. def. 12 seems a really big number to me, especially that quickly.
I think its quiet low considering how many assistant coaches would love a head coach job, aswell as all the unemployed coaches.

When we sacked Ivan we announced Hook pretty damn quick. You get in on a job opportunity ASAP. There's only 16 jobs available.

Simple....he ******said***** that as ivan was going to talk to the tigers that out of respect to Griffin ( insert laughter icon here) he had to terminate him immediately..
It's not hard to find if you want to have a look....who else in the real "looks like a duck...walks like a duck" world do YOU think he was talking about??

Soooo, Barrett’s threatened to quit Manly. Coincidence?

The planets are aligning for Penrith, Barrett and Manly to all be extremely happy.

Hopefully Baz remembers how to get to the M4, if not, I'm sure there will be a plethora of Manly fans volunteering to drive him.
