Past results

I'm wondering if anyone knew of a place on the net where I could get past results for EVERY game since 1908?

I was interested by the idea of the worst finals loss possibly racking up to Newcastle on the weekend when the previous worst was during a time when the scoring was different. I also wanted to see if any ladders or finals matches changed if you revalued tries and field goals.

Any help?

Every game is probably pushing it... You should be able to find all the competition ladders and finals online, but not necessarily the result of each comp game?

There's a lot of old info if you dig around at a site called the Vault: http://users.hunterlink.net.au/~maajjs/ - but it hasn't been updated since 1997.

And a brilliant site it is Paul. My first point of call for stats and just about always the last.

On the record final wins, we beat Cowboys the same score (50-6) last year.

Well basically I'm curious if there are any games where the result would be reversed if we used current scoring. I think 69 major semi and preliminary finals being a case in point.

I'm not so concerned about making comparisons with record scores or margins (particularly as the game was completely different back then) but rather seeing if outcomes were adversely affected by undervaluing tries and overvaluing field goals.

Naturally the argument opposing that is that when tries were less valuable teams decision making was influenced so they were more likely to take shots at goal than they are now. But I still find it an interesting question.

Up until 1966 field goals weren't always described as such, usually not - so the 2 or 1 pt difference can't really be determined.

Perhaps this is why it's a lot rarer than I thought, only 26 games would the result have been reversed, and a further 150 games when a draw would've resulted instead. Also 56 draws would've had decisive outcomes.

In Round 7, 1969, Norths with 4 tries and 3 goals, lost to Wests by 3 (1 try, 5 goals and 4 fgoals), now they would've won by 4. But of course, as you say, you wouldn't be potting fgs if they were only worth one, when a bomb might get you six. Saints scored 5 tries to 2 v Souths in 1970 and also came out on the wrong side of the ledger.

Man, 1975 GF goes from 38-0 to 46-0 under present scoring ... makes the demolition even more impressive!

I wonder if we will ever see the likes of that again in a decider? I suppose the early 2000s were when we really saw the most big games decided by wide margins, but the weekend showed it can still happen.
