Pay off for PNG after WC?

There's no doubt the PNG home games in the WC are going to go off. Tickets should be snapped up pretty fast and it will look good on Tv.

But does anyone think that this will pay off for PNG in other ways? Stronger domestic comp? More PNG players in NRL and ESL? More Tests or even Tours to PNG?

I've often thought when comparing PNG and NZ in terms of RL players and domestic comps, why isn't PNG a Tier 1 nation as well. Realistically RL should have 5 Tier 1 nations now including France. Will the WC kickstart PNG's journey to Tier 1 status by 2021...?

Sadly there's not enough money in png for them to have the facilities or full time staff to see a professional league that could improve to the standard of a tier one nation. Only reason nz is up there is due to number of kiwi eligible players in Australian sides plus warriors in nrl.

The biggest thing long term for PNG IMO would to have the Hunters fielding junior teams in associated Queensland Comps. You will see a lot nore PNG players as NRL regulars if they are getting signed at 17-20.

I'd like to see them get a home test against Australia or NZ every year though from 2018 onwards, won't happen though.

The goal would never be for the PNG Domestic Comp to get up to a professional standard. It would be for PNG to mirror NZ in supplying talent to NRL teams, not just the trickle we have at the moment. The goal (and it wouldn't take that much work for the payoff) would be to turn PNG and the Pacific Islands in to a 4th genuine player source rivaling NZ, NSW & QLD.

Who would get the payoff? Australia?

Sounds like sporting colonialism to me.
