Serious question that goes to the heart of the survival of Tigers Football Club.
Seems to be two issues being raised:
1. Generating more interest in the Balmain area from local residents.
Demographic changes have damaged the club. Fewer junior rugby league players and clubs, more children - with encouragement of parents - playing soccer.
Fewer players being drawn from the area has meant less family support and loyalty to the Club. The change in residential qualifications years ago ensured that happened.
Poor marketing of the football team to locals. Tigers puts quite an effort into marketing Tigers Leagues Club but not the football team or their games at Leichhardt.
Even at a simple thing like player appearances in the area or local schools does not seem to be happening.
2. Marketing to the local business community:
My impression is that it is poorly done. Not really sure what a local business would see as the benefit. A ground announcement and a listing in Roar Review.
Roar Review the newsletter of the Football Club is a very poor production.
Look at the back page on who sponsors the football club. There are 22 sponsors plus Balmain Leaagues and Ryde-Eastwood Leagues. Of the 22 there is not a single company from Balmain. There 3 from Rozelle and the rest are spread all over over the western suburbs including 2 in Chipping Norton. Balmain may no longer have large employers - the big industrial sites have become apartments or destined to be open space - but there are lots of smaller businesses which could be targetted.
3. Finally, we should not underestimate two very important factors - the fact that we dont have a winning team and the impact of the Super League war. Both have cost us support in the community and with business. The task is to win them back.

The link between the Feds and Bankstown Cougars also extended to the Sydney Bulls with Fady Elchab and Joe Rehayem playing in the Bulls reserve grade premiership team in 2000. Fady then played for Lebanon against Wales in 2000 World Cup with other Feds Hazem El Masri and Paul Khoury.
