PETITION: Axe The Tax, It Affects THE WARRIORS

I have set up a petition to axe the proposed the New South Wales Poker Machine Tax, which may threaten the viability of 7 New South Wales and is the reason why the salary cap can't be increased.

Here's a link:

http://www.petitiononline.com/57987/petition.html

I will take the petition to New South Wales Government House in May when I go there on a school excursion and give a hard copy to my local MP, David Campbell to forward to Michael Egan. Alternatively if I see Michael Egan I will hand it too him and give him a mouth full of what I think of the tax.

IT AFFECTS THE WARRIORS BECAUSE THE SALARY CAP MAY NOT BE LIFTED IF THE POKIE TAX GOES AHEAD AND THE WARRIORS MAY LOSE SOME OF THEIR STAR PLAYERS AND UPCOMING STARS

Really? Geez, we've never had to lose star players or upcoming stars before.

I'm not going to pretend that I know all the ins and outs of the NSW Poker Machine Tax thing ... but I thought the main concern of clubs is that they won't be able to afford their existing level of expenditure - never mind salary cap increases.

Yes that is the primary concern. But if there was no proposed tax it would be more than likely that the salary cap would be increased.

perhaps the tax might force the bludging sydney clubs to be honest.

the warriors have no leagues club (the butchas lounge ? ) so therefore no pokies

it is run by an outfit who are out to make a profit but who show a total responsibility to the fans.

Pokies tax ?? about bloody time i reckon.

bullsh*t.

Lukem88,

ARe you arguing for or against the tax. THe salary cap should not be raised at all. If it is raised then the extra money should be paid across the board to all players and not just left as an extra bit of money to retain one or two of the best players. For example, if the cap is raised 200,000 then all players should get an equivalent %rise in their contract. The rise is not there to allow clubs to buy an extra couple of players (or if it were a decrease) to force a couple of players out.

The pokie machine tax is bad for Sydney clubs (doesnt really affect non nsw clubs). Having said that, the more money available for grants to clubs the better (whether they are NRL clubs or not), so I guess in that way it does affect the non-nsw clubs provided they are not being selfish. If they were being selfish, then I would suggest that the tax might just be in their best interests since it would put many of the good Sydney clubs well back to the field, financially.

Agreed Ozbash. I live in Sydney and I f**king hate pokies, it's about time the Sydney clubs and NSW pubs and bars in general found a way of making money that didn't revolve around emptying the pockets of people with gambling problems after they've had a few drinks. Every bloody pub has a room full of machines with glassy-eyed punters staring at them and feeding them money, when once upon a time there might have been a decent bar, live band or DJ there with people actually having fun and socialising.
The Warriors and Broncos manage to run successful clubs without pokies, it's time the other did too.
