Official Penrith Under 20's squad

Tinirau Arona, Shane Blackett, Jimmy Brown, Mitchell Calahane, Jarred Cannon, Luke Clydesdale, Lachlan Coote, Tim Glasby, Bradley Goodwin, Wade Graham, Guy Hodgins, Masada Iosefa, William Isa, Trent Iselin, Michael Leeds, Travis Marshall, Michael Mate, Sam McKendry, Matthew Minto, Joel Orton, Joseph Paulo, Daniel Penese, Joel Romelo, Jarrod Searson, Jesse Sene-Lefao, James Smart, Jamie Theoharous, Junior Tia-Kilifi, Sonny Tuigamala, Greg Waddell, Chris Ward and Zoram Watene.

What a great squad, definately should be a top 4 team if they play to their potential. With 24 of the squad having played Flegg or PL this year.

Great to see confirmation that Watene is staying. Also didnt realise that Tuigamala and Ward will be Under 20 next year. Going to be a real contest for positions in the final 17.

Don't know much about Jimmy Brown, James Smart and Trent Iselin.

Five join Titans NYC squad for 2008

24.10.2007
By STEVE SPINKS
NORTHERN League grand final opponents Andrew Battese and Jy Hitchcox will join forces for the Gold Coast Titans Under-20s team next season when the National Rugby Leagues youth competition kicks-off.

Battese, a Ballina hooker, and Hitchcox, a Mullumbimby winger, were both instrumental in their sides march to the grand final last month.

Hitchcox helped his team eventually prevail with a brave performance following injury.

The duo will join three other local players Shannon Walker (Kyogle), Will Matthews (Kyogle) and Cody Nelson (Mullumbimby) in the 30-man squad that was finalised late last week by the Titans.
He (Battese) signed with the Titans a few months ago, Andrews father Brian Battese said.
He felt comfortable going up there and hes played with a lot of the guys in divisional stuff.

Battese, a St Johns College Woodlawn student, is currently completing his HSC and is hoping to earn a place at Griffith University allowing him study and play football at the same time.

A feature of the National Youth Competition is that teams will be semi-professional.

Each side will be encouraged not to train during the day and there is a heavy emphasis on players either furthering their study or career opportunities outside of football.

A number of local players have been named as shadow players for the 30-man squad including Kyogles Cameron Gibson and Matt OReilly, Mullumbimbys Travis Drought and South Graftons Daniel Bligh.

THE 30-MAN SQUAD: Shannon Walker, Kingi Akau Ola, Esi Tonga, Jared McCarthy, Kevin Gordon, Jordan Rapana, Cameron White, Tyson Lofipo, David Moore, Jy Hitchcox, Lachlan Creighton, Kye Howarth, Josh Costello, Kane Lawton, Sam Stewart, Cody Nelson, Andrew Battese, George Jarrett, Brodie Williams, Ben Ridge, Ryan Simpkins, Ryan Wilson, Tom Kingston, Bodene Thompson, Shaun Spring, Will Matthews, Siosaia Va Va, James Baillie, Dylan Roberts, Steve Darby.

Sam Stewart,
Nice to see Sammy getting a run.
He is a very clever halfback who has been at Newcastle for 3 years since he was 16 (our first 'heritage' player as his father was our first captain).
I believe he was raised on the Gold Coast.
It will be his last chance to play under 20's, and the Knights have Aus schoolboy Ryan Stig ahead of him.
He was in the junior Kiwi squad this year, but didn't get a run.
His father was 'Slammin Sam' Stewart - first captain of the Knights and captain of NZ (a prop with zero skills - so God knows how he produced a small halfback with every skill in the book).

When SG Ball finishes next yr, expect to see Lachlan Coote and Wade Graham into the Penrith side. On Lachlan Coote, would he be the first under 17 player ever to win SG Ball player of the year Girvie?

I don't know if this question was ever answered (probably several times, lol) but in 2004-5 Luke Muttdon (steelers/dragons) won Harold Matts Player of the Year and then SG Ball player the year after.

only if Kris Keating isn't available for selection...but it's certainly a nice problem to have.
