the '86 Kangaroos Tour, and the play-the-balls were as bad then as in England now.

IMO, just allow players to roll the ball under their foot, obviously as long as they are on their feet and facing the oppositions endzone. And get rid of the video-referee.

I would be ok with that but you would have to get rid of the requirement that the markers have to be square. Let the markers defend anywhere behind the PTB.

I am sure one of the reasons they got rid of the tap and run is they often did it even though there was someone in marker which meant it should have been a penalty. So it got sloppy and hard to police. So why not just allow it at any time even when there is a marker?
