The players offer no real writing skill - they offer instead inside knowledge into the make-up of the team, their day-to-day schedule etc.

I have one of Steve Waugh's Diaries, but haven't got around to reading it yet - certainly there is value in them, but purely as an interesting side-reading for the future.

I'd rather spend money on books of statistics (cricket stats of course) or a good cricket yearbook that summarises the whole season.
