QLD/NSW Cup possibility

Add to that, the chance for private backers to gain a piece of the pie, by investing in a QLD Cup or NSWRL team, they have a massive influx of new disposable income, which they could use to start buying these players which are currently looking at the UK as there only option. Players that are too old to play NRL yet still have something to offer.

I think it would only invigerate the state competitions, and give them a second lease of life.

Currently the Challenge cup in europe is done like this <snipped>

Crowd averages are through the roof, with the Semi's in front of packed Stadiums, and possibly 70k + for the Final at Wembley on the 30th of August to watch 2 SL teams . Last years final http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XPSSEhwJFYw

Traditionally only the Cup final attracts a great attendance, it would generate most of the revenue for the whole competition. The ssemi finals have attracted lacklustre attendances in previous years, this year being an abberation. Games before that have attracted small crowds compared to SL - even all SL ties attract lower crowds compared to corresponding SL fixtures.

I would advocate a competition like European Rugby Union's Heineken Cup, possibly to replace six rounds of NRL football. 4 pools of 4 teams, as mentioned in this thread:

Interesting idea with many pros and cons. We need at least a final series between the best from both comps!
