The South Sydney Rabbitohs and Michael Maguire have agreed today to part company effective immediately.

Following a Board meeting today, the Club met with Michael and it was agreed that it was in the best interests of all parties that Michael's contract as Head Coach come to an end.

Rabbitohs General Manager of Football, Shane Richardson, said: "Michael helped deliver the premiership title in 2014 and for this we will always be indebted to him. He led us to the premiership victory, the 2015 Auckland Nines win and the 2015 World Club Challenge.

"However, we feel it's time for the Club to go along a different path in terms of the leadership of the team and the direction the team is taking, and they are the responsibilities of the Head Coach.

"Michael also feels it's in his best interest to head in a different direction in his coaching career.

"Michael is a great Head Coach and we believe he will go on to do a good job at another Club, but as I said, it's time for a change here at South Sydney.

"On behalf of the Club's Members we sincerely thank Michael for his efforts over the past six years. He will always be remembered as the Coach of our 21st premiership side, he helped bring this Club to a new level of professionalism, and we wish him and his family the best of luck for what lies ahead in his career and his family's future."

Michael Maguire joined the Rabbitohs for the 2012 season and coached 153 NRL games at South Sydney, the fourth-most in the Club's history.

Wow, just went on the club website and saw this huge news! I expected it to come but not this early! Massive, massive news for us.

I must say, I think this is a good move for both Madge and the club. It's clear that we have been in a big, big decline since 2014, hardly any of our key players have progressed and Madge had an inability to change, something which I think ultimately cost him his job. Despite what some say, I think he was beginning to loose the dressing room and tbh, he's just gone stale at the club. Our style of play has hardly changed since 2014 and we have looked bloody dour the last two years and while Madge is not entirely accountable for that, I hope a new coach will bring the change that this club so desperately needs. We are crying out for change imo.

If Seibold is the one to take over, I think he can do a job. He's been here a year now and I hope all the players respect and like him. He knows his stuff too, been in the Melbourne and Queensland systems so he knows that winning culture. He could be just what we need. Then again, it could go the other way and he could be even worse than Madge. I hope this isn't the case though.

This move does effect the stability of the club a bit but I hope that in the near future we will reap the rewards.

I think Maguire will find success at another club as he is a good coach and a great person. he just went a bit stale here.

The last few years haven't been that great but to Madge I just want to say thank you. Thank you for everything. You will always be remembered for bringing great joy to this club with our 21st Premiership and because of that, I think you will be remembered as one of the great South Sydney coaches. Thank you and I wish you all the best.

The Correct decision however the choice of replacement I believe is wrong. If its Siebold the club will sink even further they guy is a novice and has no head coach experience. Wrong move. Toovey could have been the right choice because Reynolds - perhaps THE key player on the roster - needs to be roofed up the rear get motivated and lose weight. Reynolds is a match winner stagnating and a half back coach may just be what Reynolds needed to reboot his career.

If Toovey can't succeed in the super league he won't be able to handle our club in the NRL.

I'm gutted for Madge though!!!!

Madge was very shocked apparently and it took our playing group by surprise.....

Siebold was an assistant at Manly last year according to Tunks and he was shown the door mid season. That's bad form. He is a very poor choice for Maguire I believe. Change at Head Coach has been needed for 18 months or so but Siebold is not a good choice. He doesn't look in good shape and does not come across as the right replacement in terms of charisma, leadership and aggression. Many of you complain about Toovey in the English SL. But Toovey almost won Manly a GF and had them well placed the following season too up the top all the way. Reynolds needs to get kicked in the rear and Toovey may have clicked with him and triggered aggression and leadership into Alf. Reynolds is a crucial player for the team and here was a big chance for The Crisps to re-ignite Reynolds as a top player on a consistent basis. Siebold is not the person to do this IMO.

Only thing is I don't know if we have the right replacement......

We have a lot of young guys coming through and an inexperienced coach mightn't be good for that....

Geez it's been a year Travitoh and a lot to take in....

Now we can't just make Madge the scapegoat.... our recruitment team need to get their arse into gear...

Now the fact Farah is on 600k next season pisses me off big time....

George better pull out his finger along with the made of glass AR who gets 700k.

GI must fire too........

If anyone doesn't put in drop em to Norths and play a youngster.......

If we lose Crichton that will frigging cane us big time.....
