Dropping the waugh brothers from the odi side pre 2003 world cup was a great decision for mine.

The team needed renewal and their performances in that format were declining.

Ponting led the team brilliantly in SA and the windies for the next world cups.

He's been in charge of our juniors for years so he knows the good juniors coming through, it could work out OK
What juniors have come through since he has been in the role??? He was shit as a selector, failed as a coach and now has produced diddly squat in his role at talent identification.

Surely we can get a younger person in with some fresh idea's and that maybe even played in the last 30 years???

He is a large reason for the lack of juniors coming through. His criteria for giving juniors opportunities is based on batting techniques rather than scoring runs. A Steve Smith would never get a look in in Chappell's world.

Is the Cricket Academy even still going?
Yes, albeit it has relocated to Brisbane and you wouldn't think it even existed given you don't hear about anymore like you did 20+ years ago:

On a side note, look at the list of notable names that were developed and came through the academy, especially from the '90s. Back when there was a heavy emphasis on the AIS and Sheffield Shield competition as the nursery for developing future players. The Australian team's success during 1994-2004 wasn't just by chance or the stars all aligning. The majority of those funds and the time that was heavily invested into those two avenues have now gone to CA's cash cow, KFC Big Bash. The Academy and Sheffield Shield have been left lingering in the background, and the Shield season has been tampered with to accommodate the Big Bash.
