The Priors have dismantled Blacktowns football operation in one season. The teams they had in rd 1 and 2 in SS and RMC would have been favourites to win both comps. The people at Blacktown who let this happen should be ashamed of themselves. Guildford will put 50 on them next week just like everyone else has lately.

What exactly happened there? From all accounts Pat Weisner was doing a good job coaching over the years,he built great rosters across the board, was most likely a driving reason the affiliation with Manly came about.
And even going back further then this season,Blacktown have improved every year under him from the cellar dwellers - Kingsgrove would even touch them up !
Was it a contractual thing that all the players left when he got the punt or was it just loyalty to him?

Was it a contractual thing that all the players left when he got the punt or was it just loyalty to him?
It was a combination of loyalty to him and that they didn't want to play for the shambles that is left there under the Priors and current management. Weisner did ALL of the recruitment and ran the entire football program and despite a small budget, players flocked there to play for him and his staff. Without him there they had no reason to stay at Blacktown for less money, no gear and poor coaching.
He was sacked for 2 reasons -one being that the Priors came in and wanted to do things their way and the players didnt like it. Pat sided with the players and wanted it done his way and being the nsw Cup coach it should have been that way. Priors pump money in with sponsorship and Cooks plumbing. Priors win as money talks.
Second reason is Manly wanted to control Westfields Sports High and tap into the West. They saw an opportunity to put Westfields Sports High head coach Steve Hales in place there as isp coach and now have their u20s and isp teams coached by Westfields Sports High coaches. Recruitment wise this is huge for Manly.
Unfortunately for Blacktown this means their isp coach only cares about that level and Nrl as he is a Manly appointment whereas Pat ran all 3 grades and now that the Priors run RMC and below - the results are there for all to see. Flogging after flogging and the players recruited by the Priors would struggle in most A grade teams.

The Asquith Magpies, East Campbelltown Eagles, St Marys Saints and Mounties account for 13 of the Sydney Shield's best 17 players from the regular season, named in the 2017 Sydney Shield Team of the Year.

When considering Wentworthville pair Jack Miller and Nicki Toomata, the top five teams are heavily represented ahead of what is set to be a closely-contested finals series. In particular, Jake Pickering and Christian Bate have been standouts and both fullbacks had to be included in the side, while young gun halfback Todd Sapienza has the rare honour of being the only player to score more than 200 points in an NSWRL competition this year (alongside Nathan Cleary's effort in the NRL). At just 19 years of age, Sapienza will be one to watch in future seasons.

As Mounties reached a second consecutive minor premiership in the competition, co-coaches Grant Mitchell and Ron Harrison are deservedly awarded dual Coach of the Year honours.

2017 Sydney Shield Team of the Year:
  1. Jake Pickering (Asquith Magpies)
  2. Alex Nicholls-O’Neill (Asquith Magpies)
  3. Ben Dooley (Mounties)
  4. Ben Baker (East Campbelltown Eagles)
  5. Fuimano Enese (St Marys Saints)
  6. Aiden Glanville (St Marys Saints)
  7. Todd Sapienza (Guildford Owls)
  8. Tyler McCann (St Marys Saints)
  9. Shae Jarvis (Asquith Magpies)
  10. Frederick Tevaga (East Campbelltown Eagles)
  11. Jack Miller (Wentworthville Magpies)
  12. Mason Talolua (East Campbelltown Eagles)
  13. Nicki Toomata (Wentworthville Magpies)
  14. Christian Bate (Belrose Eagles)
  15. Winstone Asotasi (Mounties)
  16. Sonny Bristow (Mounties)
  17. Vinny Ngaro (Asquith Magpies)
Coaches: Grant Mitchell and Ron Harrison (Mounties)

The best of the 2017 Ron Massey Cup has been announced, with St Marys Saints and Hills District Bulls dominating the Team of the Year.

The Saints, who finish the regular season four points clear of the rest of the competition, boasts four players while the Bulls feature three times. In an indication of the strength of the Ron Massey Cup as a pathway to the Intrust Super Premiership NSW and NRL Telstra Premiership, the team features significant experience of higher levels, including Hills' big-name recruits Feleti Mateo and Heath L'Estrange, both of whom played NRL as early as 2016.

Geoff Daniela and Tim Robinson are also included, while the likes of Maika Sivo, Brendan Waters, Cowen Epere and Jerry Key are selected after leading the RMC Reps to an historic maiden victory over the Queensland Rangers earlier in the season. While the side is selected from players who have played the majority of their season in the Ron Massey Cup, an obvious standout is Sivo, who finishes the regular season as leading tryscorer despite last playing in the competition in Round 16.

Guildford Owls mentor Paul Fletcher is named Coach of the Year after lifting his side from an eighth-place finish in 2016 to genuine contenders this year, while several former Blacktown Workers Sea Eagles players make the team following mid-season moves to various clubs.

The 2017 Ron Massey Cup Team of the Year:
  1. Mason Cerruto (St Marys Saints)
  2. Maika Sivo (St Marys Saints)
  3. Geoff Daniela (St Marys Saints)
  4. Addison Demetriou (Auburn Warriors)
  5. Danny Barakat (Wentworthville Magpies)
  6. Feleti Mateo (Hills District Bulls)
  7. Brendan Waters (Western Suburbs Magpies)
  8. Tim Robinson (Hills District Bulls)
  9. Heath L’Estrange (Hills District Bulls)
  10. Cowen Epere (St Marys Saints)
  11. Mitch Achurch (Guildford Owls)
  12. Matt Ryan (Guildford Owls)
  13. Jerry Key (Western Suburbs Magpies)
  14. Manaia Rudolph (Auburn Warriors)
  15. Kurt Aldridge (Concord-Burwood-Glebe Wolves)
  16. Jordan Hall (Blacktown Workers Sea Eagles)
  17. Patrice Siolo (Concord-Burwood Glebe Wolves)
    Coach: Paul Fletcher (Guildford Owls)

How goods a Cabra loss! The same result as 2016, RMC finishes second last, Shield finishes 8th and gets knocked out first round of finals.

I'm done on the hate of Cabra now, they got what they deserved. Club news though, The RMC Coach, Eddie Flahey, has left the club and so has most of the coaching staff. Chris Yates will be replacing him in 2018.

Yates, like Flahey was,is a returning former coach of Cabramatta back in the Jim Beam Cup era if I remember correctly? Was also a cup player for Cabramatta before coaching?

Think Yates took over from Len Stacker after they won the comp. Couldn't get them over the line then but hopefully he may get more support from the club this time.
