Rugby League needs a Hall of Fame

The Australian Rugby League needs a hall of fame to stop all this talk about every second player being an immortal.

Once they have been in the hall of fame for a set period they can then nominate to be an immortal.

If it was the 80's the media would be going on about Sterling, Mortimer or Price, 90's Meninga, Fittler or the 1930's Dave Brown, even Dally Messenger.

We do. The ARL set it up a number of years ago. The NRL has just ignored it completely and allowed this immortal bullshit to perpetuate. So we had a legitimate and meaningful means of recognising the best players but instead a half-baked magazine promotion is now seen as the pinnacle. And the NRL just spend more of the game's money buying it.

i think we're on the wrong track.

we need a "reverse hall of fame"

the criteria needs to be that the pube straightener that is inaugurated into this hall must be 5 years retired.

this award would provide a much richer tapestry of our game than the usual circle-jerk over boring immortals.

it would highlight forgotten moments & players that gave us a sense of pride at being able to laugh at a genius or tear them apart on sensible & knowledgeable forums & message boards such as this one.

Isnt it already called the Paul Carriage award, or something similar?

Beyond that.

the immortals are simply known as that.

therefore these alternatives would simply be the remmortals.

the award need not be named for someone.

ergo paul carriage is a remmortal.

Two more years of origin and Dane Gagai will be the next immortal.

Then again, QLD have used about 50 players over the last 10 or 11 years. They should all be immortals.

Looks like nobody has been inducted into the hall of fame since 2007!? It's a great concept, just needs to be done properly.

Rugby League treats it's history as an after thought or lets the media decide.....it's the dumbest sport when it comes to this.
Why not have one or two players inducted into a HoF each year with the ceremoney shown on TV as the AFL (as usual leaving us behind) do. Then once every 5-10 years someone is elleviated into Immortal status and not just players from 1950 onwards.
It's a mess really.
By the way Brett Kenny should easily be in a HoF.

It is like they actively avoid giving any deeper meaning to the clubs or matches....

They just want you to turn up and hand over your cash. History, community and club culture clearly mean shit all to the people in charge.
