Yep same as when SKD got done when they were trying to release him, just an amazing coincidence!!
Leilua heading back to the Knights? He was so thought of highly in Canberra 2016, how things can change so quickly. A year down on form and Canberra facing salary cap pressures are driving it.
"Joey Leilua could be headed back to his former club the Newcastle Knights after rumours have emerged the Canberra Raiders are shopping him around."
Dumb as a post but absolute wreaking ball when he's on and in particular running down hill. But his attitude in 2017 was horrible when things weren't clicking for the Raiders. Every time it broke down on the right edge he was giving it to his teammates deluxe and making a bit of a scene about it - rev a merkin up, tell him to shape up, thats fine but don't give just give him a gobful of insults especially when you're more than good for your fair share of brainfarts.
I personally reckon the Raiders could do with a vacant centre position. Simple Jack in my books has always had centre written all over him. Cotric has just signed on for another 2yrs and that kid is too good to remain a winger for much longer even though he is only 18.
We may kick ourselves over TMM but May won’t be the long term 5/8, it’s more likely to be a kid named Jarome Luia.
Surely this clown burnt all bridges when he left Newcastle.
I really hope the club is smarter now than it was pre Brown.
How the hell do we have salary cap pressures?
We have one state of origin player in Papali. Hodgson, Whitehead and Rapana can be described as regular international players with Tapine to join them. Paulo and Cotric might make rep sides in the future.
The rest of our 17 are first grade quality at best with many of those only going around every week because our debt is so shit.
Ricky is rooting us royally.
He signed Tim Smith for us.
As a first grade coach, Ricky Stuart has left just about every club he was at worse off than when he arrived.
Yeah signing Sezer - who's a reserve grade halfback - for roughly 500k per year wasn't the best move.
Remember Austin better than Moses and Milford
Boyd and Paulo are getting paid 10G's for every kilo they put on in the off season... There's your salary cap pressure right there...
Wighton could be an origin quality center, sadly he looks like he'll never be a top shelf 1 though.
I've always though Austins best position is fullback, there all he needs to do is run. He played a couple of games there for wests and was generally good, including a length of the field try from a kick return.
If Canberra simply shifted a few and had:
6. Good new signing, even a guy like Cody Walker
I think their side would be so much better balanced
Jarome Luia badly out of his depth in the Samoa vs Tonga game.
Leilua out, Wighton to centre and Cotric fullback.
Nothing wrong with Sezer and Austin in the halves, just that Ricky destroys halves. Sezer is capable of leading a side around at halfback and Austin is a decent, strong running 5/8. Its very workable.
Yeah I’m not talking about him being 5/8 next year or anything, 2-3 years down the track.
I think you are all missing the problem at Canberra.....
it aint the players.
More than capable squad that needs to get fit and have some sort of half decent game plan to suit their style.
Get rid of a couple dickheads maybe and hello semis again.
Oh, and stop overpaying every prick you recruit.
Canberra HAS to overpay to get people to move to Canberra.
