They played an interview with thurston on MMM last night. He was pretty critical of Pearce, saying that what Pearce lacked was the ability to close out close games, and he could have spent time with cronk to learn a lot, then continued playing for a few seasons after cronk left.

Like it or not, and for whatever reason/s he's come out and said it, Thurston is 100% correct here.

Pearce clearly lacks the ability to close out games. Big games too.

Maybe it would've been good for Pearce to play alongside Cronk for a couple of seasons but that isn't what Easts wanted. If the plan was for Cooper and Mitch to play side by side, they wouldn't have left him in the dark about Cronk's arrival.
It's easy for JT to say he should've stayed but the truth is that his position in the club had become untenable.

Such silliness - he kicked a field goal against a depleted Dragons side on ANZAC Day this year after 18 straight failed attempts at closing out games. If that doesnt prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that he is the complete clutch player, then I dont know what will...

I find it odd that Thurston would proffer that opinion on a peer on a public forum such as triple M radio. Players usually steer away from criticising other players in a public forum and for good reason, NRL players get enough criticism from fans and armchair expers in the media without having fellow players coming in to stick the boot in too.... I wonder if Thurston will be as quick to point out Ash Taylor's deficiencies in the coming years or Cameron Munster's... or will they be off limits because they know how to sing the "Aye Aye yippie yippie aye" QLD team song....
