I can see that you're well researched. Sounds like he's the type of player who doesn't shirk the hard work and does the right stuff off the field.

I get your comments about buying players from the right system rather than just on talent or ability. But I feel like we've been there before where we've brought in guys who had heaps of talent but didn't buy in or just mailed it in every week and got a big pay day. Yep that spring to mind are Tariq Sims and Darius Boyd.

Obviously there's the potential for any plan to fail, but hopefully next year we end up with the right mix of talent and work ethic in the team to give us the best chance of being successful moving forward. Slade Griffin probably doesn't provide us with any more than what we already have in the talent department but having another hard working player from a good system who's been mentored by the best hooker and coach out there can't be a bad thing. Not to mention he's probably coming here on fairly minimal coin anyway so it's not like we're burning a lot of cap money to bring him in.

Exactly where he fits into Brown's ideal 17 we don't know right now, but hopefully we will get to see the plans come to fruition in 2018.

i thought that was levi

He has a lot of competition from Brandon Smith, who got picked ahead of him as the 18th man for the Kiwis ahead of him earlier this year.

This may upset the apple cart a bit around here but the more I see Brown's interest in Griffin, the more I see Danny playing more minutes in the lower grades next year....I think Brown has faith in the potential and current ability that Danny has (we all see it) BUT I think Brown has genuinely identified that he needs more development for his long term future away from FG for the next 12 months or so and I think that is about his long term physical future.

Danny has already had significant issues with his back from a young age that have required surgery and he is still relatively young (turning 22 in December) - in fairness to Brown, this might have quite a bit to do with long term player welfare and, when I look at it in that context, I actually don't have a problem with that if it means Danny is still playing elite level footy into his 30's

Your starting to sway me, nice article that gives an insight into the person rather than the player

And that is why Browny wants him. I get it, we want good people with good habits and good knowledge here.

I just don't think we need another 5'10 90kg non-specialist spine player. Our issue has long been too many of those on the roster.

Nutty

I very much doubt Levi spends time in reserves next year. Just my opinion.

For the record I agree with Mac. I don't get the Griffin signing. We have Buhrer. If it's a depth signing and he's happy in reggies then great. Maybe Brown is looking to shift Sione to the backs to keep Buhrer in the backrow and Griffin on the bench????

Otherwise I don't get why Griffin would bother leaving Mlb.

I know it is a bit of a long bow to draw and I don't disagree that your alternate theory or opinion is also a good possibility Spot On...and don't get me wrong, I rate Levi very highly.

I also get Macs point about is he what we need when we have Buhrer...

I suppose I'm just flagging that we have really had to over extend the young players at this club over the last 18 months, largely due to the dead wood clean out that needed to happen. Perhaps another full off season is all he needs but I do believe he is one of those players who still needs some physical maturing for the weekly grind of first grade to make sure he has an extended career in the NRL.

If we get to a position where we have a capacity to support and nurture some of these younger players through more traditional development due to an increase in depth, I think that is also a good thing for our long term prospects - all I am saying is that, if that is part of Brown's consideration in looking at Griffin, I'm happy with that.

Don't think that's on the cards seeing as they tried to get Beale and still in market for a centre.

So where does Buhrer play if we get Griffin? Don't say backrow. Surely we don't carry Guerra, Sione, Buhrer, Fitzy and Barnett in the 17? Not possible. Someone misses out if Brown playes 2 hookers and Griffin is one of them.

Surely if Levi is playing and Buhrer is in squad Griffin misses out, can only play 2 of the 3.
I like the way we have played recently, Buhrer at 9, Levi on later for rest of game, it works.
Hard to see Griffin playing unless an injury prior to selection. Can he play hooker for major part of game over many weeks. He covers Buhrer for injury but does he cover Levi.

Guerra, Sione, Barnett back 3, Buhrer starts at 9, Levi on, one of other four rested, Fitz misses out,, bench is Levi, Fitzy, Lillyman and Jacob. Griffin reserve grade hooker unless injury to Buhrer, need a hooker to cover for Levi.

No doubt we need depth in the 9. Buying Griffin to me means he is straight into the 17 or he may as well stay in Mlb. It looks as though Brown rates Buhrer highly ( so do I) and he will be in the 17 but for mine he is behind Guerra, Barnett and Fitzy in the backrow. Whichever way you cut the sandwich, if Fitzy is given the nod to start in the 17 one of Sione or Buhrer make way unless Sione moves to centre. Of course Fitzy has to keep up the form he showed late this season to get the start..... and I think he will.
