Can someone explain why the fans have to sit through 3 years of McGregor's coaching apprenticeship?
I couldn't give two hoots about how he has developed as a coach.
The FG squad needed a FG caliber coach every season - I am tired of rationalization and excuses and hearing that McGregor loves coaching and is passionate about it.
Every current FG coach would say the same thing.
I want us to have a solid coaching regime that will match wits with the best in the comp and compete every single week. Not stumble and bumble through the season like amateur hour.
I also question this little journalistic cameo.
Turner is not exactly your intellectual, hard hitting NRL journo asking the hard questions.
Gave a queue to McGregor to talk about himself and then gave his personal "verdict" at the end.
Looked staged to me with little or no journalistic merit involved.
It’s disturbing. The guy just loves getting his face on camera and his poor grammar on the record. He is an shameless self-promoter, and excuse mongerer and an embarrassment to the club and fans.

With all due respect to all those blaming Widdop for the sideways play...Answer the following...

Widdop played 5/8 under Bellamy and I cannot remember him crabbing in the melbourne system....that should show you who is to blame.

Over the past 18 months, I've taken it upon myself to re-watch around 15 storm games when Widdop played
for them.

His role there was catch and pass, he hardly ever ran, I counted 207 passes and only 11 runs, until I got tired of counting.

Slater, the centres and wingers... were the attacking thrusts, widdop was purely there to pass.

Widdop was able to lay low, under the radar so to speak.

If you played, would it take the coach to have to tell you to straighten up the attack?

I imagine you would realise this yourself......BECAUSE you have a football brain.

Mary isn't to blame for Widdop crabbing.

Even my 10 yr old daughter yells out run straighter Gareth!

I have got a funny feeling that Agar has been brought in to replace Mary when he stuffs up as his role is fairly airy fairy working with the coaches of the three grades.

Widdop's role at Melbourne was as a straight forward link man.
Bellamy gave him a very specific job to do and he did it.
Widdop wasn't happy with that and wanted to prove his worth as an accomplished playmaker and that was one of the reasons he came to us.
Fast forward to today, I cannot see what all the fuss is about with Widdop.
To me he will always be just a good link man if he is directed to play that role..
Now, he may have to adopt that role if Hunt steps up and starts dictating proceedings and that may well be the best outcome for the team.
I certainly hope it goes that way because he is not an organizing half IMO and no where near suitable to captain the side.
McGregor should stop all the hype and get Widdop to knuckle down and do what he does best.
Be a link man, not the dominant half.

So I guess that's why he was players choice for 5/8 of the year in 2017 along with the other awards he was given. Some people are extremely harsh markers. Our best player last year...........

When the pack stopped dominating we went sideways...opposition sides knew that the majority of our attack came from the left side and started rushing up on both widdop and Lafai which made our attack ineffective.

Its the coach's job to come up with a PLAN B .................

Dennis..I have a high respect for your opinions but have to disagree on this one....

Players choice for dragons, big deal.

And dally m, well woods got prop of the year, so u think that's great?

Widdop can play, just not an organiser.

Ask Wayne.

Not in the halves, but let's see how he goes with Hunt.

I have low hopes.

GS - The coach definitely has a big role role to play and I don't doubt Widdop is a good footballer but the common denominator in our clunky attack and lack of game management last 3 years has been Widdop.
I found it interesting that Bennett chose to put the best 5/8 of 2017 (and players" choice etc.) at FB for the WC.
IMO there are at least 3 or 4 specialist five eighths that are better than Widdop in the comp - especially if the criteria is winning premierships.
I realize my views on this are not mainstream but maybe I am just getting a little impatient for some hard edged results for a change.

He put him at fullback because their fullback got injured and they didn't have a viable alternative. Stop trying to insinuate that Bennett preferred him at fullback. It was out of necessity.
