Any Club would be mad to pay the transfer fee. Offer him a fair wage but the fee should be on him and his management. If he dislikes living and playing in the UK so much he ought to be okay with that and cop the hit to live and work where he's happiest.

Otherwise sit it out in Leeds for the next 2 seasons with a whole organisation who thinks you're on the nose.

Is it possible to spread the transfer free over the length of the contract? 130K a year for 3 years is potentially doable...

Segy should go back and play like a merkin and get sacked but still take their money.

Apparently that's no longer an option. I don't know how it works though, seems like having your cake and eating it too by cancelling the contract but the transfer fee still stands?

All nine Sydney clubs pass on hooker James Segeyaro and his whopping $425,000 transfer fee

IF James Segeyaro wants to revive his NRL career, it will not be in Sydney with all nine clubs on Tuesday passing on the unhappy hooker and his whopping $425,000 transfer fee.

Leeds boss Gary Hetherington also told The Daily Telegraph his club would not accommodate Segeyaro if he wanted to return to England and honour the final two years of his deal.

Segeyaro could have earned about $600,000 over two seasons with Leeds, but could not bring himself to leave Australia because of homesickness.

He is now being sued by Leeds for breach of contract and faces being without a club for 2017.

The transfer fee, which was valued by Leeds, along with any contract at market value, will be counted towards the cap of any club that signs him.

James Segeyaro is being sued by Leeds for breach of contract.

Segeyaro offered a “no comment’’ when contacted on Tuesday.

He posted on social media earlier in the day: “Do what ever makes you happy! Not what makes others happy!’’

Cronulla was linked to Segeyaro because of his friendship with Wade Graham, and the retirement of star No. 9 Mick Ennis.

But Sharks boss Lyall Gorman on Tuesday confirmed there were no plans for Segeyaro to join the premiers.

“We have no interest in any player when they’re contracted to another club,’’ Gorman said.

“If that situation was to ever change, you’d look at your roster and test your appetite.

“In relation to transfer fees, they’ve become a major salary cap hurdle and management issue. Our general principle is we wouldn’t invest in players with a transfer fee attached to them.’’

St George Illawarra, the Sydney Roosters and Wests Tigers were not interested, while Canterbury CEO Raelene Castle said her club would pass.

Manly are understood to be not interested and it’s the same story with Parramatta, who have money in their cap but would be loath to unite Segeyaro with former housemate Corey Norman.

Penrith, who allowed Segeyaro to join Leeds midway through last season, were also not in the hunt for his signature, especially with Peter Wallace and new recruit Mitch Rein on their books.

All Sydney clubs have passed on unhappy Leeds hooker James Segeyaro.

South Sydney have recruited Robbie Farah, with boss Shane Richardson happy to release Segeyaro when he was part of the club’s Holden Cup team.

North Queensland’s Peter Parr said Segeyaro would not return to the Cowboys, especially with plenty of depth in his position and the transfer fee which could not be ignored. Canberra were also content with gun Pom Josh Hodgson and back-up Kurt Baptiste.

It is understood Leeds terminated Segeyaro’s contract once he formally alerted them he would not return to England. He was expected back for pre-season training in the new year.

Segeyaro remains registered with Leeds and the Rugby Football League until November 2018, which prevents him from playing elsewhere unless a club pays the $425,000 transfer fee.

Hetherington flew back to England on Tuesday night, and planned to meet with coach Brian McDermott at the end of the week to discuss their dummy-half options.

He was disappointed Segeyaro chose not to return, especially after he was given every chance to leave, but happily inked a new two-year deal on September 1 before he returned home.

I don't know how you can cancel a contract and then demand a transfer fee for someone contracted to you...?

The release is from the registration, not the contract.
However what sporting body allows a registration without a contract.

I'm sure the nrl wouldn't allow us to register te entire qld team just so we don't have to play against them.

Just got back from North Cronulla beach.Who should be there in all his glory at the coffee shop near the surf Club, around a table? Flanno,Pearce and two other guys, in deep earnest discussion.
Maybe working out a buy or sell operation.
Sort of like stockbrokers flogging flesh.

Leeds are dumb. They put the same transfer fee on that flog of a fullback nobody wanted and I don't think they got that money either.

Seggy won't go back. Might do a Gordie and take a year off. He can't be forced to play.

They've effectively cut their relationship with him anyway, just left it so they can whack the transfer fee on / limit his ability to play over here.

They don't want him back.

IMO Leeds have done nothing wrong.

Segyaro is an adult who was living over there at the time and knowingly signed a contract.

Someone looks like they've made a better offer and he wants to change his mind.

Leeds deserve to be compensated.

We would all be kicking and screaming if one of our spine players decided that they wanted to walk out just prior to pre season training.

Stop talking sense PJ.

This is all about the modern day rugby league. The NRL, and "the game"

Crikey if they (The NRL) wanted too they would have Seggy available to play for Scotland.

It's all a joke these days.
