Hughes got his chance in SA and took it with both hands, he deserved a bit longer run.
Now it looks like he is doubting what got him selected in the first place.
You could say Rogers was unlucky not to get the gig but he doesn't seem a fit for Ponting Manlub, it's not Hughes fault he got the gig ahead of Rogers but you are deathriding Hughes every chance you get. Typical insular Victorian.
Hughes is the most overrated player to ever play, he was rushed into the team because he was NSWs new young star and the selectors caved to the media as they always do. He was thrown into their 2 biggest series on the back of a short first class career where he was never really tested due to playing most games on the SCG and somehow avoiding all the tough away trips
Sure they could have left him in to see his average plummet throughout the rest of the Ashes, then see him fail to cash in against a weak Windies outfit as 2 of the tests are at grounds he cant score runs on, then his average would probably be down near White and McDonalds
Fact is he isnt ready, of course they would have been better off with Rogers, he has the experience, wouldnt be set back by being dropped and found out because he isnt a young kid and he has played alot of cricket in England
The funny thing about it all is there was uproar apparently in England for teams letting the Aussie players acclimatise early in the season yet had Hughes not gone to Middlesex he probably wouldnt have been found out and may have cashed in especially as Anderson usually bowls sh*t right where he wants it
People need to realise that yes he is a kid, so let him get better at first class level, let him get some experience in different conditions, the test side is not supposed to be for kids who are learning the game
