If the player is good we don't need to knock his direct opposite with unflattering comments to boost his ego or show him in a better light, if he is really better then it will show for all to see.
Better to be better than a good player than better than a bad player, giving credit to all allows the better player to shine on his ability rather than "I'm the best because the rest are rubbish.
