The World Best Rugby Union forward Garrick Morgan switiching to League. Finds himself on the bench for RESERVE grade. Switches back to Union and walks straight back into the Australian side.

When they had to let people in for free...Just to get a reasonable Crowd.

That was only their last 2 games. They were amongst their smallest crowds. They were being shut down, so revenue wasn't important to them. So of course they should open the gates.

Their biggest crowds were in 1995.

That's an easy question . . .

A) So as many NSW based teams as possible could live.

When you consider the lose of a side like the Gold Coast, PROFITABLE!!! and not performing worse than some of the teams they were sacrificed to save, one wonders if both the ARL and Super League were guilty of not careing about the comp but were more concerned with shoreing up their powerbase (Sydney Clubs) :?:

Playing in the NSW-dominated ARL comp didn't help their cause. Nor did a total blackout by the Brisbane media in favor of the Super League Broncos.

I remember going to Lang Park one day in 1995 to watch them play the Warriors in front of 30,000 - it was a classic high-scoring match.

There was a stack of potential there. Another big chance lost by the rugby league.

Now you've got that RL powerhouse, the Melbourne Storm.

Forgive me for my ignorance, but is there actually any junior or amatuer league's in Melbourne ?

melbourne serves an important purpose

just like the swans and the lions do in the afl

killing the storm would be as stupid as killing the reds, rams, chargers etc etc

and would send our game backwards another 20 years

One of their lower grade teams winning the grand final in 1997... at that time, they were dead broke and about to be shut down.

The players had to catch a bus down to Sydney... the looks on their faces at full time said it all - they were just a bunch of kids that were happy to be there.

They won u/21s in 1996. The players celebrated at St George Leagues with the losing Dragons

Players from the Crushers still around:
Clinton Shif
Mark Tookey
Travis Norton
Aaron Moule

I thought it may have been 1996. But yeah, it's an image from the mid-90's that sticks in my mind, amid all the chaos that was going on at the time in league.

The Crushers would have turned into a well supported and talented club if it was still around. But the future is still bright for another Brissie team. And Gold Coast is just a matter of time.
