Souths team for Charity Shield named

14 February 2005

Former Test winger Adam MacDougall will be the only big name missing from the South Sydney side for Saturday night's Charity Shield against St George Illawarra at Aussie Stadium.

Coach Shaun McRae elected to give MacDougall, recovering from an Achilles tendon injury, another week's rest.

His omission clears the way for Lee Hookey to make a rapid return to top grade.

Hookey quit rugby league in December citing a lack of motivation but decided to return after holding talks with McRae and chief executive Shane Richardson.

Another former Test winger, Shannon Hegarty, will start in the centres alongside Hookey with fellow Sydney Roosters recruit Peter Cusack named in the front row.

Team: Todd Polglase, Luke MacDougall, Shannon Hegarty, Lee Hookey, Brad Watts, John Sutton, Joe Williams, Peter Cusack, Shane Walker, Scott Geddes, Bryan Fletcher (c), Luke Stuart, Ashley Harrison. Interchange: Mark Minichiello, David Fa'alogo, Shane Rigon, Brett Kearney, Roy Bell, Scott Logan, Michael Greenfield.
