The Newtown Jets Sports Club has announced itself as the major sponsor of Parkes Rugby League Football Club for season 2004. The support is in addition to sponsorship by the Parkes Leagues Club, which has again become the number one local sponsor of the Spacemen, after years of dedicated support from the Cambridge Hotel., It might be the off-season for rugby league, but it's a busy time for clubs, as they go about recruiting players, coaches and trainers., That, of course, follows on from the September appointment of a committee, which is working hard to put the wheels in motion for a successful 2004., But in this era of competition, where the love of the game is often overshadowed by dollar signs, there couldn't be a local grassroots club of any description, without the injection of funding through sponsorship., The support of the Newtown Jets couldn't have come at a better time for the Spacemen, who are still coming to terms with a disappointing season., It's hoped the relationship with Newtown will see one or two Spacemen display their skills in the Jersey Flegg or Jim Beam Cup competitions within the next few seasons.
