The winner was impressive. I've had a sneaky on George Bowen in the nursery @ good wood because it got beaten by Ivawood last start.

Ivawood looks quality, beautiful stride on him. His sire Zebedee is having an awesome start to his stud career getting winner after winner (only has 2 yo's on the ground)and coming off a moderate service fee. Not unlike another son of Invincible Spirit here in I Am Invincible.

Also like the look of Fox Trotter the young filly who finished 4th in that race was last most of the way though really knuckled down the last 150 or so to just miss third... They take her to a fillies race next over 1200 and just load up

Sixth Winner for Starspangledbanner

Tara Madgwick

Sub-fertile sire Starspangledbanner has been making every post a winner with his first crop in Europe adding a sixth winner to the tally at Beverley overnight where his two year-old colt Star Cracker saluted.

Having his second start following a luckless unplaced debut last month, the Michael Dods trained colt bounced back to win the five furlong maiden by half a length as favourite.

Purchased for 20,000 euros from the Goffs Sale as a yearling, Star Cracker is the first winner for modestly bred mare Champagne Cracker.

Starspangledbanner has had six winners and five placegetters from 14 starters in Europe, impressive results that have local racegoers eagerly awaiting his first Australian runners this season.

Returning to service at Rosemont Stud in Victoria last spring, Starspangledbanner covered 51 mares and one of the first of those foals to arrive is this colt from Fupeg Magic born at Rosemont Stud.

Starspangledbanner is now fully booked with the last free nomination to him to be offered at auction at the Inglis August Thoroughbred Sale at Oaklands Junction next Friday, August 22.

Inglis will auction 6 stallion nominations at this sale, they have been catalogued as Lots 79 to 84 and the proceeds will help support the Victorian breeding industry through Thoroughbred Breeders Victoria.

Lowther not Nunthorpe for Anthem Alexander

BY PETER SCARGILL 10:15AM 19 AUG 2014

ANTHEM ALEXANDER will remain against her own age group and sex to contest the Group 2 Pinsent Mason Lowther Stakes at York on Thursday after connections decided against running her in the Group 1 Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes on Friday.

Trained by Eddie Lynam, the two-year-old Anthem Alexander had been just 8-1 to land the Nunthorpe Stakes after an impressive win in the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot in June.

Anthem Alexander is one of ten fillies declared for the Lowther Stakes along with the likes of Albany Stakes winner Cursory Glance and Tiggy Wiggy, who had also been under consideration for the Nunthorpe after a scintillating victory at Newbury on her last start.

Owned by Noel O'Callaghan, Anthem Alexander has not run since winning at Royal Ascot having been forced to miss the Group 1 Phoenix Stakes earlier this month due to soft going.

The daughter of leading first-season sire Starspangledbanner had been well fancied to become the first juvenile to win the Nunthorpe since Kingsgate Native in 2007 and the first filly of that age to triumph since Lyric Fantasy in 1992.

Instead Anthem Alexander will run at 6f for the first time on Thursday since being beaten on her debut leaving former winner Sole Power to represent Lynam in the Nunthorpe on Friday.

Quinn hopes that 'The Wow Signal' can wow Deauville..

Thomas Kelly18 August 2014 12:00 AM

John Quinn reports The Wow Signal to be on target for next Sunday's Darley Prix Morny at Deauville.

Unbeaten in two starts, the Al Shaqab Racing-owned colt has not been seen since his victory in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot.

A dirty scope ruled The Wow Signal out of last weekend's Keeneland Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh.

"We had a small hiccup with him when he didn't scope clean but we've been very pleased with him over the last few days," said Quinn.

"He just cantered this morning and we worked him yesterday with a view to running in France next weekend. It's all going well."

Should The Wow Signal make it to Normandy, he will face a fellow Royal Ascot winner in Hootenanny.

The American juvenile, winner of the Windsor Castle, represents last year's winning trainer Wesley Ward, successful with No Nay Never. Richard Hannon's impressive Goodwood and Newmarket scorer Ivawood is also in the Morny picture.

Meanwhile, the improving Amralah has been given the green light to test his mettle at the very highest level in the Qipco Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown on September 13.

Mick Channon's four-year-old has taken his career to new heights in his last two races, winning a Newbury Listed race and the Rose of Lancaster Stakes at Haydock.

Options elsewhere were being considered, but connections hope he will run another solid race in Ireland.

"We're going to go to the Irish Champion with him," said Ted Voute, owner Prince Faisal's racing manager.

"They've done a great job of marketing it to us, anyway. Initially we were going to take Ocovango, but then Amralah came along.

"He's been a bit maligned for some reason, but he keeps progressing. Let's hope if he wins again he might finally get some credit, because we think it's due.

"He'll go straight there now. We'd toyed with going to Baden-Baden, but we want to find out how good he is."
