sternum injury ?

Can anyone tell me how long these things take to heal.
Just to set the scene this is what happened.
I got taken out playing oztag last week.
I didn't have the ball and was caught off guard by some c**k who thought he put a massive shoulder hit on me.
No reason for it as far as I can remember...(I am going to get the merkin back though).
It was extremely painful at the time and I couldn't finish the game.
Anyway I don't think there is a break or fracture.
In saying that it has been almost unbearable at times.
Trying to sleep the first few nights was impossible.

It is one of those injuries that make everything else impossible.
Just driving or trying to lift my kids in and out of the car leaves me in agony.

anyway maybe someone else has had this and knows a bit about it.

also.
I had my 3 and 7 yr old kids watching me play when I got hit.
That was pretty distressing for them seeing me knocked down trying to breathe.

f**king dog.

6 to 12 weeks.. lower end for non fracture.

It's a merkin of an injury, and in fact a lot of martial arts train to injure the sternum real early. It lies above the lungs, thus inhaling/exhaling aggrovate the sternum, causing great discomfort and difficulty in breathing.

Thus anything that exerts you should be put on hold, unfortunately lifting your kids, age 7 esp, is part of that.

The first 5-7 days can be real bad, if affecting your sleeping too much, you may need to be presribed painkillers and anti-inflammatories.

It is a dog act.

Cheers.. That ain't good.
Breathing is not too bad now... But still pretty sore.
Sneezing is shit.
The slightest bump nearly drops me.

Worst part is it happened off the ball and the ref ( who is a very well know rugby league person )
said he didn't see a thing.
Which is fair enough as I didn't even have the ball.

Very pissed off.
The merkin tried to say sorry and said it was an accident.
I know an accidental collision from a full blown shoulder charge.

Teaspoon of cement will fix it.

Why do f'wits find it necessary to pull off a shoulder charge in oztag. Tough injury mate, sleeping can be the hardest to deal with. Good luck with it.

Still no change after 2 weeks.
Might be worse than a week ago...f**k!
no surfing - no running - no swimming - driving is not fun - no sleeping.

Sounds like you cracked it mate

The only remedy are painkillers (may need a local injection) and rest

Karma will take care of the prick who did it mate
