Take a look at @7NewsQueensland's Tweet:
Quite a few different news sources talking about a 10 year deal

I heard it was 10 million which would make more sense.

We saw last Saturday night just how important Lolo is to their team so he's definitely worth it.

I feel like he is worth more than that per year.. but also think that 10 years is pretty stupid. Strange (possibly fictional) contract.

Taumalolo is an absolute gun. But wow, 10 year contracts to me represent inordinate risk. Soooo much can go can so horribly wrong so fast.

I hope for the Cowboys it doesn't as he's the most destructive backrower I've seen in many a year.

DCE signed with Manly for 6 with a 2 year option.

Everyone said that was crazy, and how stupid Manly were for doing it. Now (supposedly) a 10 year deal??

OK.......

It seems crazy to me as well. It's like MLB whereby you see teams like New York sign sluggers like Texeira and A Rod to enormous long term deals. One injury and the process of aging and now the Yankees have a real struggle on to rebuild.

Extremely happy with this deal as a Cowboys fan.

He's our future captain and has been one of the leaders of our pack for a couple of years already.

If Taumololo isn't already the best player in the nrl then he is easily the best young player in the game.
At 8 million ($800k a season) it is an absolute bargain. In 5 years time 800k may be cheap for an elite player, with Taumololo locked up already it could be an astute signing. Cowboys may have not been able to keep him any other way, and if the choice was take a 10 year gamble or lose him I'd take the 10 year gamble any day, Taumololo is that good and that important to them. At the very least I can't see Taumololo failing over the next few years, giving you a few years to make other options. If he does get seriously injured then I think it'd be easy to pursuade him to medically retire with so much money promised.

A f**king WOT m8?
Haha. That's gotta be a piss take... it's f**king WILD

That deal had better have some inbuilt protections in it for the cowboys. They could be f**ked for a 15 years if that goes wrong injury wise.
If he stays injury free, then that's a great deal. A lot of risk.

Wow that is a fricking long contract for an nrl player! I guess with an alleged $10mill salary cap on the way we can expect to see these frachise player agreements more and more.

Ten years is a long time to keep form

We were starting to see "super rich" players in our game ala American/English sports in the 80s.

Injury free AND motivated. How do you keep the fire burning with a contract like that? Geez, he's good now... but wow. The Cowboys are in panic mode if it's true.

I guess you have to suffer one of these long term contracts to understand the risk. I hope it works out for you, I really do, but in my book even 5 years is 1 or 2 too many. This contract alone could make or break your club for a decade.

Ten years is way too long for any player, I can understand why they would though.

Given the uncertainty around the future of the broadcast media, what happens if the next broadcast deal is less, however unlikely that may be? it's even hard to understand a bit from the players point of view, if the cap goes up considerably in the next deal he could be short changing himself.

Fair enough

All contracts are a risk

LoLo is the best player in the game at the moment and is still so young in footy terms

Yeah well we could have instead signed a 2 game rookie for $700k a year for 4 years..........
