Thoughts on the selection of Paine, Bancroft and S. Marsh?
    Paine - Weird call
    Bancroft - I like it
    S. Marsh - Pathetic. 8th call up.

    Th
ACB selectors were given a pep talk by Mc Fookknuckle just prior to announcing the team
    Pathetic effort and embarrassing.

Rubbish calls except for Bancroft. The selectors obviously think test match experience is more important than talent and ability. Doesn't matter if previous experience resulted in failure, it's more important than talent and ability. The continued selection of Marsh bears an unhappy resemblance to MacGregor selecting McCrone week after week.and is likely to provide similar results.

Steve Smith thinks the sun shines out of Marsh's arse for some reason, partly why Marsh was picked despite hundreds of failures.

Jobs for the boys is alive and well.

At least Marsh has speed as he's always out quick!

I don't think its Steve Smith begging for his inclusion. Only reason Marsh boys get more chances than anyone else is because of their dad is in the old boys club. Its relentless. Look at the averages of the other batsmen.
    Warner- 47
    Khawaja- 46
    Smith- 60
    Handscomb-57
    S. Marsh- 36
Khawaja and Shaun have played same amount of tests yet Khawaja averages 10 more than him and Khawaja gets dropped the second he fails.
Shaun Marsh averages 36 as a specialist batsman. We can do better.

So glad someone made a thread about this. You're a legend Crush.

The thing that irks me the most about some of these selections is the hypocrisy from the selectors, particularly Trevor Hohns. Just last year he wast quoted saying "we're bringing in youth, the next generation of Australian cricketers to get them ready for the Ashes next year".
And sure, they threw in Renshaw, Handscomb and Maddinson (even though Maddo was a flop)... But then what do they do? They pick a 34 year old Marsh who has had umpteen chances in International cricket, and a 32 year old gloveman who can barely get a gig for his own state and drop one of the most promising openers we've had since Hayden.

Renshaw was extremely hard done by. Done absolutely nothing wrong at International level, in fact he was one of our best in India, and is dropped completely. What does that do for the kids confidence? I've always thought Renshaw was the perfect partner for Warner, he steadies him and keeps the top order afloat. Don't get me wrong, Bancroft is a deserving selection, he is an absolute gun... But there was a way to get them BOTH in the side at the same time and not sacrifice one or the other. But instead... The selectors go with Shaun f**king Marsh.

Maxwell, again, done nothing wrong of late at International level, was our best bat in the sub-continent, gives us that extra spin option, but was overlooked.
Hilton Cartwright, the next generation number 6, best average at state level of any Australian and gives us a seaming option... Overlooked.

Hohns said yesterday "we're picking on form and we won't accept mediocrity". Well by that logic, Warner and Handscomb miss out too due to their Shield form.

It's a joke. A side that could have had a powerhouse batting/bowling line-up is now vulnerable.

They constantly get it wrong. They pick on who is a nice guy and who fits in with the team culture. Make no mistake, the selectors do not like Khawaja or Maxwell. They don't quite fit the boys club. They speak their mind in the media. Khawaja especially has been dicked around so many times. The second he gets a pair of low scores he gets dropped. Then he has to make an absolute mountain of runs again until there is no option but to pick him.
Imagine Trevor Hohns when asked why shaun was included he said because "hes in the form of his life" WTF? He scored a few fifties in shield and he's in the form of his life? Get stuffed. He averages 36 after a long career at age 34 and that is not good enough. It stinks to high heaven and it drives me f#@ing crazy. It should have been Maxwell or Cartwright.

Marsh selection a joke. Picked because of his father.
Paine was the anointed one until a horrible finger/hand injury. Be interesting to see how he goes.

Never liked T. Hohns. I felt he couldn’t wait to get rid of S. Waugh.

    Marsh selection a joke

Paine, we'll see. Deserves a chance

Bancroft needed to be selected inarguably on form

Every thread is the same. Even a thread about cricket leads back to sack McGregor.

Top wicket taker Lyon (I think the quicks will cannibalise each other)
Top run scorer - Handscomb 3 x 100's (Brisbane, Adelaide, Sydney)

Massive fan of Lyon. He does take wickets, especially when the quicks are bowling the quick bouncy stuff. Poms don't like that, they get nervous and look to take on the spin.
Handscomb fan? I hope you are right. It wouldn't surprise me, he averages 57 after 10 tests, not too shabby.

My theory is 1 quick will break down and we could possibly go back to rotation policy. In amongst all that hard for any of them to get a 5 for as we will betaking wickets from both ends against a pretty average English batting side.
Lyon will be the constant and Brisbane, Adelaide & Sydney should provide good hunting grounds.
I think the Pomm's opening bowlers are pretty good and can cause some problems so might struggle a bit up the top but their change bowlers are anything but great so the middle order should cash in and as you pointed out Handscomb already has some test experience and a good average to boot.
