Before I begin, the Ivanhoes are mourning the loss of clubman Dennis McRoberts - a referee, junior coach and a member of the club's old boys team - who died whilst refereeing an Under-14s game at Yarrabah on the weekend. He is survived by hie wife Michelle and children Jake and Georgia.

I was just in Cairns for 3 days, and read the local rag with all the local footy gossip.

Good to see RL is very well supported in regional areas like Carins.

As a former itinerant resident of Atherton during the 80's with my bank career, I loved the few Atherton / Mareeba games that I watched up at the showgrounds. Full of excitement, passion, biff and bravado. Hope the tradition continues today.

Shame to see the Roosters at the wrong end of the table , though they have had some great years of late.

PS. Up in FNQ for work recently - first visit in 18 years ----my god has Cairns changed !!!!

After five and a half seasons, I'm drawing a close on covering the Cairns District Rugby League on these forums after this round.

The main reason is that I've accepted a teaching position in western Queensland which takes me off the web and out of circulation area for the Cairns Post.

It's been an absolute ball (at times) delivering the scores to those of you who read. Unfortunately I couldn't deliver a Sharks premiership, and had to suffer through three from Brothers, but ah well. You can't win them all.

Go the Marlins in the Foley Shield.
