Inb4 the Private Jet from the Vatican rolls into town with a golden parachute.

One of the highest ranking Catholic figures is going on trial for pederast, yet apparently I'M the one that is destroying the moral fabric by enjoying a joint every now and then. GG society.

there is a lot of anger at the Catholic church and Pell is an easy target

its a cliche but i hope that innocent or guilty justice is done.

Long before the royal commission Pell's name would come up in complaints about abuse, however none seemed to mention him as an abuser. He seemed very complicit in cover-ups and relocation of offenders from what I heard but I don't recall any allegations against him. Both are despicable crimes but I would hope he is convicted only of crimes he has committed, or acquitted if he truly is innocent. At least he had the balls to confront his accusers unlike scum like Skase.

A lot of their operations are taxed.

You want to tax donations made by the congregations? The money for charitable work?

Which bits aren't taxed that concern you?

The only component/s that are taxed are any business activities outside their constitution of religious or not-for-profit sector and any attempts to prove one way or other is normally a shit-fight.

Example, selling land for massive capital gains - taxable, they will argue that any gains are being re-invested in their religious/not-for-profit work therefore no. Profits from home care - same.

Agreed. Let’s not turn this into another thread where the majority of Catholics who are just as appalled as everyone for these heinous crimes against children are tarred with the same brush as the likes of Pell.

well isn't this the place where people who create a thread also make their agenda pretty obvious by the thread title that they create ?

I understand though, a tiny percentage is not an indictment of a whole organisation
