Titans head list of salary cap breaches

You're are a Kiwi who lives in Queensland? Maybe, so I will type slowly. It means that no one was willing to talk to the investigators and the Bronco's Leagues club it appears were not willing to allow the NRL auditors access to the paper trail. Simply the NRL should have slapped a 40 point penalty until the Leagues club would provide the information they requested.

How would that be fair on the club? A third party not under the control of either the NRL or the club doesn't cooperate so the club is punished. The Broncos cooperated fully.

Interesting Scott Prince has been released from his 1community ambassador duties with the NRL.

He might lose his job with fox sports too??

Won't someone please think of the children and tell the truth. For a few weeks we had Paul Kent and the Talkin Sport Crew talking about how hard John Cartwright had it because their understanding was that he could never spend close to the cap. So if they weren't spending close to the cap, why on earth were they making unlodged payments or benefits to Scott Prince, as surely they would be able to afford it?

The list of rep players that the Titans have had over the years like Prince, Bailey, Bird, Harrison, Myles, Taylor, Rogers, Idris, Walker, experienced players like Zillman, Minichiello, Douglas, and frankly it seems every second or third player of outstanding NYC pedigree, some of whom they never play (Henry, Likiliki, Faifai-Loa, Roberts, Kelly, Sezer, Carter etc), unless they came up for a scone and a season pass to Ripleys Believe it Or Not, they didn't come for cheap. People like Paul Kent though would have you believe they most certainly did.

The real issue with the Titans is not to do with their lack of return under the coaching of John Cartwright though, its the fact that they are the epitome of bought not bred and their junior pathways, in particularly their NYC team, is an absolute rabble.

Contract won't be renewed when it's up, he hasn't been sacked exactly.

Unfortunately I doubt it will mean anything for his deal with foxsports.

The phrase 'pot calling the kettle black' comes to mind.

I do see what many here are saying. This establishes a dangerous precedent. Short term contracts with generous payouts and you basically make it impossible for the NRL to investigate any cap breaches. An employee of yours does something dodgy, his contract runs out. He gets a nice bonus and he is on his way. As he is no longer involved the NRL can't do anything.

I think the rules have to change. I think if your employees aren't willing to talk then the assumption should go against the club and competition points should be lost.

This isn't a criminal court. Making a headline punishment that will mostly never see the light of day is a cop out. Have the balls to do something about it.

It's like, for example, a footballer, let's call him Gregory, is charged with assaulting his partner. He tells the court that he was only protecting her from self harm and so the judge finds him guilty but doesn't send him to jail this time, but will if he does it again.

It is that simple if clubs want to breach the cap though. Hire someone on a 6 month contract to do all the deals direct with sponsors and the leagues club. Then barring a player cracking it for being unpaid, sponsors whistle blowing or a club keeping a paper trail it doesnt need to the NRL will struggle to find anything.

You could even "self report" if you were confident that everyone that needed to be was out of reach.

Hahaha it's suss as all hell. Gee probably fell on his sword and will be looked after by the club in some way.

I think when the NRL re-negotiates with clubs, they'll have additional powers to make sure this kind of thing doesn't happen again.

You know what would like to see the nrl try that tactic. Would take lawyers 5 minutes to have it over turned. You can't punish because you think a club is guilty without evidence till they admit guilt.

Ok so in your scenario said interview of ex-employees:

Q:Were you involved in anything happening?
A:No

Q:Are you aware of anyone else involved in anything happening?
A:No

Ok, thank you for your time.

It makes no difference, you can't force people confess to something that hasn't happened if the evidence supports that. You also cant go around slapping penalties on clubs based on suspicion.

No, but they should impose some type of penalty to the club as the said person was "Unco-Operative"

The only way the NRL will ever be able to police the cap properly is if the players tax records are allowed to be inspected. Until then clubs will be able to hide dodgy payments

You're telling Bunnyliar about the law? - but he is a policeman, he knows law. He has an amazing IQ, and is in Mensa, so he will understand the law. Obviously he is posting dribble just for a laugh. :sarcasm:

A club breaks the rules and wins the comp, and they get a fine or suspended fine/sentence. They break the rules again and win another comp. The following year they start on -4 points, sack some staff, and still have all the perks of two GF wins.

Is that a possible scenario?

It is entirely possible to impose harsher rules, regulations, penalties and monitoring in the future.
All clubs are extended an invitation to participate in this comp.
Next time renewal is up it is just a matter of "sign here and abide by these new conditions, if you have nothing to hide, shouldn't be a problem, if you have any problems with this, please feel free to raise your concerns within 28 days, we will respond within 28 days to allay your concerns, please note that for the 28 day period you are still bound by the proposed conditions, if after 28 days you have not been granted an exemption from said conditions then you are to presume yourself bound by them, if you do not wish to be bound by them then you are free to leave the competition giving notice of no less than 28 days prior to the beginning of the season proper................ have a nice day"

Wow what a soft penalty for a club found deliberately rorting the cap. Drugging your players, slap on wrist, rorting cap slap on the wrist. Unwillingness to comply with investigation no problem. This integrity unit is well worth the money!
