Trainers/coaches on field

Is there a rule against coaches being on the field during the game?
The trainers run drinks and instructions out. Is there any reason the coach cannot run drinks out?
Last night while the Eels produced the worst defense ever seen (in the structured defense era) the head coach and defensive coach sat looking clueless up in some box.
Surely the coach has to grab the drinks bottle and run out a message along the lines of "if they get outside you again you are fired".

It is an interesting question though: "can NRL coaches run the drinks out and if so why the heck-fire don't they?" It would make good TV.

Geez, do you think they might be trying to keep an overview of the whole match instead of doing tasks that a trained monkey or Alfie Langer could do?

Probably, but on occasion (like last night) a detail surely becomes more important than the broad picture.

Coaches are effectively running drinks out.

Exactly. Cut the middle man out the message would get through stronger. Last night it would have been good TV to see Brad Arthur run out the drinks and bitch slap both the Jennings brothers and maybe even drag them off the ground by their ear lobes. Instead the camera keeps cutting to him looking like a useless dope in the coaches box.

Watched the Broncs play Manly live. Allan Langer was out there sitting behind the middle of the ruck directing play every set. He then goes off when Manly gets the ball. When someone needs treatment some other guy comes on the field.

Its what happens when you don't have a real halfback.

I can imagine Bellamy running on the field,
that would be funny.
He used to when he was an assistant at the Broncos. I have to say, big Lazzo running water was funnier.

I seem to recall there is an NRL rule that coaches cannot be on-field trainers.

He's only being doing it for 10 years, and every now and then people figure it out and get outraged about it.
