Warner out of New Zealand ODI series

Saying that it's too early to judge warner, smith, kane makes me precious? Stating that Warner having one bad series can paint an unfair picture of his record in that country makes me precious? Saying that there's more to Williamson's record (like all batsmen) than surface scratching stats makes me precious?

Again, the labels are nice. I'm sure it helps you feel like you're escaped entering a reasonable discussion. You accusing someone else of being precious - lol, priceless.

Williamson has scored a century in every test nation except RSA - Warner hasn't... Williamson makes mistakes so does Warner - Warner also shows no situational awareness, and refuses to adjust his game when conditions suit. He's opening in India, if he just blasts away he might get lucky, but again it would show a lack of awareness of what's required in conditions outside of bouncy fast Australian like wickets

Anyway, the responses are pretty funny - Warner's 'gee he's special' 'great situational player' LMAO nonsense is questioned, and the response is "what about Kane?" Sure, what about Kane, what about Kohli, what about Amla, what about Smith, what about Root, what about AB, what about Cook - who the f**k cares, start a thread on Williamson when he rests from a series, or start one now about AB if you like...

Many of us just aren't buying the Warner love - if you think he's a modern Greenidge, or better than Sutcliffe (the Pom) or Hutton, or Ponsford then more power to you - but I am not sure how bagging Williamson makes Warner better...

Pretty selective shit tbh - I've said numerous times how I think Hazelwood is a tremendous bowler, Starc too, and potentially Cummins and Pattinson. But I guess I missed the part where I had to uncritically accept that every member of the Australian team is just a wonderful cricketer or all time great - it's ok to bag Lyon, Wade,, Maxwell, Watson, Quiney Maddinson etc - but don't ever suggest Davey's not a legend...ffs
Please show where I have ever said Warner is a great player. I have been one of his strongest critics and remain so. However, in a thread about him not playing in an ODI series I, unlike yourself did not bring up his test record.

I'm precious because I dare have a rebuttal to inaccurate posts? OK.

Why not? At every opportunity you guys remove these stats and those stats to make Williamson's average go down. Against the majority of test playing nations his away from home average is the mid twenties.

Or is it just that one way street thing again you were using as justification in your previous argument?

See, I can be just as douche and nonsensical as you and JJ.

Actually I've always made it clear I think Bradmanson is a very good player. It just irks me when muppets use this stat or that stat to bring down a player (Warner in this case, Smith in others), but steadfastly refuse to acknowledge similar stats in regards to their own pet players.

Bradmanson is very good but there is absolutely no way he will be considered a great if his current record continues. Same with Warner. Yet one set of stats is the be all and end all to some and the other is "nonsense"

Wasn't talking about you Bazal. It's pretty obvious who the usual culprits are on both sides of the argument and i wouldn't put you amongst them

Likewise i've always given Warner credit where its due and criticism when warranted.

As i've said though. Judging any player halfway through their career is a little flawed, but in Williamsons case i'm comfortable with how he's progressing as a player and if he can continue his gradual improvement a little further (as i would expect him too only coming into his supposed prime age wise) then i'm confident his overall record will improve along with him, and it's not a bad record by any means.

The bottom line is that this upcoming Chappell-Hadlee series should not have been played, especially so shortly after the last one only 1-2 months ago. CA has really stuffed up the scheduling big time. Not surprised in the least, given how amateur the CA administration have been for more than a decade.

The T20 matches vs Sri Lanka should've been played next week (Sunday/Wednesday/Friday), before the preparation for the tour of India started. Having the T20 matches vs Sri Lanka starting a week before the 1st test is going to be very hard to promote, given the test players who are normally in the T20 side won't be available as they will be in India, let alone the first test in India commences less than 24 hours after the 3rd and final T20 match. Yes, the 2nd T20 at Geelong will generate a lot of interest and publicity, given it's Geelong's first ever international match (and they are also pushing for ICC accreditation) and on a Sunday, but the other two at the MCG and Adelaide Oval will be hard to get 50% capacity. I just don't see the cricket public flocking to those two venues on a weekday to see a bunch of no-names.

Geoff Boycott was correct a decade ago during the early years of T20, when I remember him in commentary saying that the public's interest in the international T20 games will only continue as long as the test players are participating in it. That was the case at the time before the IPL became big and the development of specialised T20 players who eventually gained precedence over the test incumbents. For Australia, it was after the 2009 World T20 that the T20 squad was restructured.

Australia captain succumbs to ankle injury ahead of trans-Tasman ODI tour, faces nervous wait ahead of India challenge

Less than a fortnight before Australia begin their daunting Test tour of India, captain Steve Smith will undergo a nervous wait before learning whether his preparation will be hampered by an ankle injury.

Smith was this morning ruled out of the three-game Chappell-Hadlee Trophy ODI Series that begins in New Zealand next week after sustaining what is thought to be a mild “sprain” to the medial ligament in his left ankle.

However, the Test skipper will undergo an MRI scan upon his return to Sydney this afternoon to ascertain whether the injury – which he suffered when he landed awkwardly while fielding during his team’s 57-run ODI win over Pakistan at Adelaide Oval last night – is more serious than first thought.

Smith remains confident that the initial prognosis of 7-10 days’ rest and treatment should see him fit to join his teammates for the week-long training session in Dubai that precedes the Qantas Tour of India.

He was due to fly to Dubai direct from NZ on February 6 with fellow members of the Test squad who are taking part in the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy series, but is now likely to delay his departure for the Emirate until he is fully recovered.

But his absence from the NZ tour has caused a headache for the National Selection Panel, which will meet via a phone hook-up later today to decide a replacement player for Smith in the ODI squad.

And to announce who will take over the captaincy, given it was confirmed earlier in the week that vice-captain David Warner was to be rested from the NZ campaign in order to best prepare him for the upcoming India assignment.

Quick Single: Warner out of Chappell-Hadlee series

It is understood the selectors might give some thought to recalling Warner from his leave to lead the team against the Black Caps, or opener Aaron Finch – who was dropped from the squad for the five-match VB Series against Pakistan – could be elevated to the captaincy having been reinstated as a replacement for Warner in NZ.

“It was decided an hour ago that I’ve been ruled out of the New Zealand series,” Smith told reporters at Adelaide airport before boarding a flight home to Sydney to begin his rehabilitation.

“I’ve got a medial ligament injury to my left ankle, they think it’s a 7-10 day injury and I wouldn’t be fit for the first game (in Auckland on Monday), I’d be very unlikely for the second game (in Napier next Thursday) and a possible for the third game (in Hamilton on Sunday, February 5).

“We’ve got a lot coming up so they think it’s an opportunity to rest it and be right for India.

“It’s a bit of a shock.

“I just landed really awkwardly on my foot and I felt something straight away.

“I was a little bit concerned, I’ve never really injured my ankle like that

“I was in a bit of pain last night, I injured it and went off and got it strapped and looked at and was in a reasonable amount of pain in the field.

“I was struggling a bit after the game last night, and it was about seeing how I woke up this morning and I woke up in a reasonable amount of pain again.

“They think it’s just a medial ligament sprain but I’m having an MRI this afternoon to see if there’s any more damage.

“I’m confident I’ll be fine to train in Dubai after that and for the first Test in India.”

Smith said he was disappointed to be ruled out of the Qantas Tour of New Zealand, particularly in light of the batting form he found himself in at the end of the Australian summer.

“Every series is important and I would have loved to have been in New Zealand, I feel like I’m batting really well and when I’m batting well I want to keep going,” he said

“So it’s disappointing from that aspect but we’ve got pretty big fish to fry in India shortly, so hopefully the boys will be able to do the job in the Chappell-Hadlee Series without me.

“I’ve got to listen to the medical staff and see where things go from there, but they’re confident that everything will be okay from Dubai and on to India as well.

“I don’t think I’ll be hitting balls (during his rehabilitation) which is a bit disappointing, I’d love to be hitting balls.

“I’m not really sure what I’m going to be doing.

“Rest, recovery, some ice, those kind of things to try and get it right as quickly as possible.”

You can thank chairman Victorian and his partner in crime Pat Howtard.

Maybe no rest for Warner? Christ I hope Wade isn't captain, I'll be physically ill.

Give it to Travis Head, he's SA captain and he's not an unflushable turd

LOL, unless they change the Warner rest it'll be Wade for sure - looking forward to seeing his personality and style impact even more on the group - could be special

Guess we might be favourites now, although your attack is still high quality - but injuries are part of it, they just usually affect us more - and of course if we rested anyone you'd be playing a club team LOL
