After the SL gf. They don't even bother playing them at neutral venues anymore so it will be at either Wigan or Warrington. Although you'd think they could at least take it to a slightly bigger venue if Wire make it.
I doubt the extra capacity would justify the cost of hiring out a different ground. Warrington's stadium is fine, it's just a little small but a 16k sellout wouldn't be too bad. They only did neutral stadiums in the 2000s because Bradford, Leeds and St Helens didn't have the facilities to host a big match, which every SL club (or all the ones that matter) now do.

Like st helens chairman said after moving into langtree..why hire somewhere,at great expense, when we have our own, state of the art ground and get to keep 100% of the revenue?

Because you can get a bigger crowd. Obviously.

This is why the game there is so small. They take the weak option every time and then wonder why no one takes any notice. Warrington playing in front of 15k in their own ground is hardly going to make the media or anyone else stand up and take notice of something billed as a world champonship. At least if they played it somewhere like Wigan they might be able to make it look like a bigger event because it's a neutral venue for a championship game. It would be Wire's first time in it and first chance to be called world champions FFS.

The reason the game is so small is because most of the places that it's popular are strange, backwards little towns where nobody wants to be. Playing the match in Wigan or Warrington wouldn't make any difference to the perception in the media or anywhere else, and the cost of renting Wigan Athletic's stadium would likely offset any potential financial gains from a crowd above the 15k capacity at Warrington.

Chicken and egg. It's only popular in small towns in one geographical area because it has taken so many weak options when it comes to growing the game and it's profile. This would be just the latest and by no means the least of these. But whatever, it's not like anyone really takes the WCC seriously anyway.

I'd like to see the WCC be combined with the 9's with the hosts being alternated between the current RL strongholds (Yorkshire - NSW - NZ - Lancashire - Qld - NZ) or use it as an expansion tool to grow the game in potential areas (Wales, Scotland, Perth, France etc)

You have never actually been to nw England have you?

1St, why would the crowd be bigger? More neutrals are going to turn up than Warrington fans you would lose?

2nd, why would you move the wcc from your home town?

3Rd, the cost if renting would kill profits

4th, why would playing at Wigan make the news more than at Warrington. Do you think the media are based there or something?

Aus media don't want it big though in case they lose though.

Pfft, maybe Yorkshire pit villages but not in Cheshire. Everyone wants in.

I've been to Warrington and Wigan. It's more perplexing why anyone lives there at all.

But then you see small minds like this and it makes a little bit more sense.

To be fair, it's the clubs that are basically organising these fixtures.

If the RFL wanted to make it an actual event and hire out Old Trafford or Etihad, they could. And promote the hell out of it.

But in stead it's just another minor game with little publicity played in small stadia.

I love the sydney logic that if games are played at bigger stadia you'll get bigger crowds...its very, very rarely true though is it!

We hear it most finals series! People whinging that the likes of st george or manly should play semis at ANZ or SFS cos fans would get locked out of brookvale or koograh...then when it comes to the actual games they no where near sell out brookvale or koograh lol..

Look guys, when you host WCCs you can tell us how to host...but ya don't so pipe down cos you can't grasp that getting 15-25k in our own stadia and keeping all the associated monies from corperate, food & beer stalls is far more profitable than hiring out a anfield, eastlands, elland road and losing monies from corperate, food & beers stalls

Not rocket science guys

And when the game there has a mildly higher profile than coights you can tell us how to do things.

I won't be holding my breath.

I think the quote that sums it up is "why would you move the WORLD club challenge from your home town?" said with no irony at all.

Talk yesterday on the radio that Cronulla are requesting the game be played in Sydney next year, would be good timing as there is a lot of positive energy around the Sharks at the moment and i'd say they would pull a good crowd at Allianz

Do you really think those teams want RL being played on their pitches at the business end of the season when every point they get can mean millions of £s?
