The West Indies Wahoo’s are fast on track for needing to purchase a trophy cabinet after winning their second nines tournament in just as many outings. The prestigious York Nines tournament, which features 24 sides from England, Scotland, France, Russia and South Asia was the latest venue where the highly talented Wahoo side showed their scoring potential racing through the tournament undefeated.

Coached by Steve Pryce, the relatively young Wahoos showed not only a fantastic potential to score tries, but also were one of the best defensive teams in the tournament, which proved vital in their clashes against South Asia Bulls, Lezignan (France) and York Ironsiders in the final in which their was less than two points between the sides at full time.

The tight encounter between the South Asia Bulls and the West Indies means that next months full international clash between the two sides will surely be a thrilling encounter.

West Indies Wahoo Squad:
Danny Mills © (St Kitts and Nevis), Irvin Greenwood (Jamaica), Damien Martinez (Trinidad and Tobago), Nigel Arismendez (Trinidad and Tobago), Collin Gellineau (Trinidad and Tobago), Joe Brown (Jamaica), Gavin Calloo (Jamaica), Alex Rowe, Jermaine Wray, Selwyn St Bernard (Trinidad and Tobago), Verne-Bruce Sylvester (Trinidad and Tobago), Rodger Simpson, Corey Simms (Jamaica), Matt Godfrey (Jamaica), Ricky Davey, Maurice Mayne

(In brackets – Nation of birth/heritage)

Wahoos? :? What the hell?

Great news though! Let's hope it helps them build towards a local competition. Going through the 9s undefeated is very impressive. If this sort of developement keeps up, an Emerging Nations World Cup would be extremely exciting! :D

Wahoo's are the fastest fish in the West Indies/Carribbean area so cause 7/9's are so fast paced we thought that the West Indian rep sides that take place in that should be called Wahoos.

The main West Indian side will have a different nickname when it plays its first full international against the South Asia Bulls on Wednesday July 28 in the UK.
